    This song isn't about a couple "not being able to be together" because a few lyrics in the song imply that they've been together. I think this song is about a girl still having feelings for her ex and stil wanting/missing him but she knows that he's toxic for her.. The guy also feels the same way. Even though they love each other they know they're toxic and not good for eachother.
