I believe this song is about how hard it is for him to find love.

"tonight we drink to youth. And holding fast to truth (I don't want to lose what I had as a boy)"

He remembers the times he was young and loved...
You usually receive un-questionable love as a child and he doesn't want to lose that love.

"My heart still has a beat. But love is now a feat. (about as common as a cold day in LA)"

He doesn't receive love as easily and as much anymore.

"Sometimes when I'm alone I wonder, is there a spell that I am under Keeping me from seeing the real thing?"

He wonders if there's a reason he doesn't receive love anymore.

"Love hurts... but sometimes it's a good hurt and it feels like I'm alive."

He's saying that love is painful but you need it.

"Love sings, when it transcends the bad things."

Love is joyous when it becomes greater than all the negativity and hate in your life.

"Have a heart and try me, 'cause without love I won't survive"

He's asking someone to give him their love because he can't live without love in his life.

"I'm fettered and abused, stand naked and accused. (Should I surface this one man submarine.)"

I'm not sure what he means here... Maybe he's contemplating whether he should allow someone to love him after all the hate and abuse he's gone through.

He want's to know why no one will love him. He wants to remember the times he was loved...
