Megalomaniac Lyrics on KOvideo

This is one song I had to write something about, there was just no way around it. It’s from the album “A Crow Left of the Murder” and there is more than meets the eyes. The song’s chorus puts it right in your face, “Hey! Megalomaniac/You’re no Jesus!/Yeah, you’re no f**king Elvis!/Wash your hands clean of yourself, baby/And step down!/Step down!” Does a person come to mind? Well, one should especially if you have seen the video. It is an Anti-War/Anti-Bush anthem. Lead singer Brandon Boyd says it is not specifically about Bush, but he invites you to “go with it” if you make the connection. Boyd who readily admits to voting for Ralph Nader in 2000, and being a Green Party supporter contests that this election is too important, and he will be voting for John Kerry, even though he doesn’t agree with him 100%. I love it when bands get political (remember the good old days) and give our oppressive Government a hard time so if you can afford it, don’t download this one, buy it!

note: George W. Bush has been diagnosed as being a megalomaniac because he has trouble distinguishing between himself, God and the United States.

I agree that the song does have a anti-Bush message, but I also believe that there is a reference to former bass player Dirk Lance. Yes, the video is anti-Bush but I read in an interview with Brandon Boyd that the song is about people in general who have megalomaniac tendancies. On the album 'A Crow Left Of The Murder' there are a few songs that have a similar underlying theme. 'Leech' is a good example. Hey, maybe I am wrong.

You are right that the song applies to bush, but it also has a widder reach. The video is the tell all to this songs meaning. Incubus is saying that we are run by oil and not by real people. Also they go as far as to say that americans are brainwashed to follow by popular media which ironically this message is also being spread through media. This songs scope attacks more than just bush but also those who reshape the image of christ for their personal gain, which is a lot of leaders of today and days pasts. This song is basically forbodding listeners to search for truth through their own life and not what popular media tells us.

Actually this song isn't about bush but the megalomanic is in reference to rush limbaugh. I think that the band has actually hinted to that and the numerous media references are a dead giveaway.

I agree with the anonymous post two posts up. Yes, it applies to Bush and yes, that probably is intentional. That is not its only meaning, however. It applies to many situations.

This song isn't about one person. Its just about a lot of things goin on in the world and some people were coming close to megalomaniac tendencies. but I'm sure bush was one of the people in mind. don't read into the video though incubus didn't even have a say in what went on some lady set designed it all and the guys were just like alright cool
