I think this song is about someone that you look up to, who (to you) is like your guardian, like your father figure, but one that is way too harsh on you, and strictly raises you towards his beliefs and his beliefs only, .
"Step out of the shadows,send the children to their saints"
but you start rebelling as your a teenager, and he wonders what he did wrong.
"You create these zombies, just to keep them from their faith".
and is too strict, and doesn't let you have a normal life. He tells you to stay in line.
"No retaliation said the poet to his kin
Separate the idols and commit your deadly sin"
a father who treats you in the coldest manner.
"Love is put aside while you finish what you start"
but secretly its because he loves you and just wants you to be safe, and is doing it all for your own good.
