Someone was close to the real story behind the song: "I actually think this is about a girl who is homeless and is trying to make it as a famous actress." It was modeling, and she didn't start out homeless. She was becoming successful and got caught up in drugs. She eventually ended up living on friends couches and in the end she overdosed and died young. It is not about Lana, but someone she knew. Her real name was changed to Carmen for the purpose of the song and her annonymity.

This song is about her in her teenage years. At first I thought the lyrics and tune put together was quite freaky, but when I reread the lyrics I understood it.
It is about her when she was seventeen. As it says it in the lyrics. . The message she's trying to get across is that even though she has messed up ALOT she still shines bright and has earned other people's respect for an obvious example her fans. -
