It's about a girl that is a cheater and this this guy finally realizes that he is in a relationship that is false.

He says your best friend is not your girlfriend, which could mean that he is close with a girl and always has the idea in the back of his mind that this girl is girlfriend material, but then he knows that any kind of physical relationship would ruin their friendship so in both ways he's kind of screwed ''it hurts''

This song is about a guy that's out with his frined [a girl] and she is getting really drunk and making a fool of herself. [the alcohol is scented with your breath
you're always all done up to just be used]
he gets just as drunk and they have a one night stand
[how did I let her inside ]
he wakes up the next day regretting what has happended and hopes things will not change between them [when the morning comes you’ll act surprised

Tom said that this song was about him leaving blink and feeling guilty. I can't match the lyrics to the meanings myself but that's what tom, himself said

Wow....Uhh jokbrad's interpretation was really good. Uhh that's definitely a different way to look at it. I was thinking she was his best friend and he always had a crush on her but he doesn't want to ruin the friendship so he's just gona keep it like this.

I always thought it was like, this guy knew his best friend's girlfriend was cheating on him, but didn't want to say anything, until one night the guy actually slept with the girlfriend, and he was trying to tell his friend (your best friend is not your girlfriend. As in, he was saying his girlfriend has betrayed him.) and secretly blaming the girl.

Think about it, a guy dosnt let a girl inside you idiot.
It means how did I let her inside my heart, my thoughts, feelings. How did I let you in? Thats what its talking about. Tom didn't say it was about leaving blink 182, he said it's about his friend who was going through ruough times with his girlfriend. He said she tore him inside out. And it killed him to see that. [his friends getting hurt that is] his girlfriend was the "cheating type"

This song to me says just about everything when it comes to being hurt by someone you care about! He likes this girl and yet she seems to continue to hurt him! It just ends up being another lost hope for someone. I love this song it says everything I am so afraid to say!

I bet you anything it's about Tom himself having an afair. Have any of you listend to +44's album? If you have then you'll see on their song "No, it isn't" Mark says "And I'm pushed into the deep end

In foreign dressing rooms". Mark and Travis have already said that song was about Tom and the break up, and I believe Mark is slyly "telling on him" and if that's the case then Mark is an asshole, but anyway, what do you guys think about that?

Yeah I agree, jockbrad is only trying to be deep, but he's really stupid.

And and and, we don't have to like or respect jockbrads interperatation..
we all have our own thoughts and opinions.. don't be stupid.

Also we can "rip jockbrads head off" if we want to..figurativley speaking that is.

Its very simple:

Try reading through it as if the singer is sleeping with someone else's girlfriend (Sherrie) and is talking to himself or Sherrie the whole time except for the line "Your best friend is not your girlfriend" which he is saying to Sherrie's boyfriend. Kinda makes sense huh?

The song deals with guilt. Tom may have wanted to portray his guilt about the band breakup by comparing it to the guilt of cheating/betrayal.
