Coldplay - Talk Song Meanings

I think that this song is about feeling confused about life, especially about the future, and needing to talk with someone about it in order to get all the worries and concerns and fears out in the open, and hopefully try to figure out a solution to them. It is like a conversation between two people, one the person needing help, and the other the advisor. “tell me how you feel… well I feel like they’re talking in a language I don’t speak…” the chorus is about all the possibilities that life holds, and all the things that we can ahieve. “you could climb a ladder up to the sun, or write a song nobody had sung, or do something that’s never been done.” this song rocks, I find it comforting to listen to.

This is about the need to talk, like oprah does in her talk show! we all need someone to talk to... :P

It seems to be a song about not relating to the rest of the world, and wondering what the future holds.

Because this song strikes such a strong emotional chord with me, I feel completely unqualified to offer any kind of objective interpretation -- all I can do is explain my own particular bias, and the torrents of feeling that pass through me each time I hear it.

I am totally incapable of listening to this song without imposing my own story on it, that of an adult adoptee who has spent most of his life in complete denial about his lack of identity, and living in total fear of vocalizing these feelings out loud. I have always wrestled with the conflicting urges to share these deepest feelings with the world but at the same time not wanting to upset the balance of life as I've known it with my adoptive family.

Who knows what the exact inspiration for "Talk" was. Maybe an "official" interpretation isn't so important if a listener suddenly finds his or her own story been told back to them, particularly when they feel like an alien in their own life.

I am very grateful for this song.

I agree with the person above me I find this song so relatable as am sure many people do. However my interpretation of this song is like someone who feels isolated, and as you listen its almost structured like a councelling session. However I feel the main basis of this song is human need for communication.

I think this song is about losing someone you really cared about. I think Chris wrote this song after one of the band members passed away and it was the guitarist. He wants to 'talk' but he can't get through to him through spirit.
