Fall Out Boy - Thriller Song MeaningsLyrics:That summer we took threes across the board But by fall we were a cover story "Now in stores" Make us poster boys for your scene But w... (See the rest of these lyrics) Submitted by: anonymous Added: 2007-01-13 21:17:48   Rating: ![]() ![]() I think this song is basically about them as a music group. "Last summer we took threes across the park. But by fall we were a cover story, now in stores"
Submitted by: anonymous This is just my interpretation, if you have anything you think should be different, let me know.
Submitted by: anonymous The person above me has some really good ideas on what this song is saying. But "Fix Me In 45" is referring to a therapy session. Pete Says in a rolling stone interview that the average session is 45 mins. So knowing that the whole chours is clear. "Long-Live The Car Crash Hearts,Cry On The Couch Untill The Poets Come to Live" Usually people that go to therapy and have those kind of problems are that best writers. "Fix Me In 45".
Submitted by: anonymous I completely agree with the second person. That totally explains the whole song. I would also add that he says "we are not making our accepting speech" this means that they are not getting conceited or cocky. and "I have found the safest place to keep all of our mistakes. every dot com's refreshing for a journal update" this refers to their online journals
Submitted by: psPatrick2707 The second and third posts are amazing interpretations, but when I heard the song I thought that when they say "last summer we took threes across the board, but by fall we were a cover story" meant something else. I totally agree about their 3 big songs on the charts, but when they say by fall, I took it as by their mistakes and mess ups they became famous. I mean, they had 3 songs that blew up but from them messing up (like maybe Pete's naked pics on the web) they got tons of publicity but it wasn't from their music. I don't know, tell me if you disagree it was the first thing I thought though.
Submitted by: anonymous Everything sounds good. I do have to say though that when they say that they took "threes across the board" I feel like they mean they took ratings of 3 out of 10 across the board. As if there were a panel of judges judging them. At first I also thought it was talking about their 3 hits, but when I thought about it more I realized it says "threes". Then, sequentially in the song, they were "the cover story" meaning they got better recognition. Also, about the 45, I think that maybe it takes on both meanings. I tend to lean towards the idea that the cd's 45 minutes is a therapy session.
Submitted by: anonymous "Cry on the couch, all the poets come to life. Fix me in 45" Totally excellent point with the therapy session. This ia probably the initial idea when this was written, however, the beauty of poetry is it's vast aspects. On that note, I believe it applies to a typical artist ending. A stereotypical artist never really comes to life until they have died. 45 to me refers to a gun ending a life, beginning of a poet. I don't know, perhaps too much thought for a fall out boy song.
Submitted by: anonymous Thriller is truly a story of what happened to Fall Out Boy. As Jay-Z states in the start of the album version "We dedicate this album to everybody that people said they couldn't make it", it's about FOB's unlikely rise to stardom. In the beginning verse of the song it says "Make us poster boys for your scene, but we aren't making an acceptance speech." It basically is a fancy way of saying that they are the kings of the Chicago Emo Scene (Which they are), and that they don't like how the scene is (they aren't making an acceptance speech). In the chorus, "Cry on the couch where the poets come to life, Fix me in 45". It's describing a therapist session, as a psychaitrist session lasts usually around 45 minutes. "Crowds are won and lost and won again but our hearts beat for the diehards". FOB is trying to say that they know they lose fans with some of the albums and singles they publish, but they don't care and they only care for their diehard fans that have followed them since their start.
Submitted by: anonymous okay I agree with the 3 songs and the therapy
Submitted by: rokker This song begins their cd "Infinity On High". With the heavy music, you expect them to scream but they don't. It is saying to expect things that you would not normally expect. It is also about not giving up on your dreams.
Submitted by: anonymous Okay, so I totally agree with the whole 45 min therapy session thing, BUT I also kinda agree with the cd length thing. I kinda think of the cd as a therapy session, you kno, just a time to relax and tune out my crazy life. So those both fit right? & this is one of my fave songs on the IOH album. one of my others is don't you know who I think I am. I think I'm gonna start a thread on that now.......
Submitted by: anonymous I totally agree with the interpretations here. The one line "We took threes across the board" it could mean that all 3 of their albums had three major songs... or maybe it could be that the third song on each of their albums became a single... Take This to Your Grave- Grand Theft Autumn, FUCT- Dance, Dance, or Infinity on High- This Ain't A Scene, It's an Arms Race.... I don't know... just a random thought of a rambling teenager...
Submitted by: anonymous All off the stuff so far could be (in my opinion) correct. But I wanted to bring two things to light that I had noticed. "Car crash hearts" could possibly be a reference to the car (van) crash the boys had in thier early days they often talk about it when asked about significant moments for the band. It was a big obstacle for them at the time when it happened. "Cry on the couch till....fix me in 45" to me is about getting upset crying on a couch (possibly in front of a therapist) and then, after you're done crying, being stimulated by how upset or angry you are and writing (poets coming to life). The fix me in 45 thing was a tough one until I saw this half of us interview with Pete about depression and he said that playing a show is like his therapy because after getting upset (crying on the couch) and then writing about it (poets coming to life) when he eventually comes to tour every time he plays the songs live he gets to vent and relieve himself of those emotions. Therefore "fixing" him and these days aren't thier sets about fourty five minuets including the talking and dirty coming on and then the encore? Thats just the way I see it the other interpretations are really good though and made me think alot.
Submitted by: xxxthedreamer That summer we took threes across the board
Submitted by: anonymous Personally, I think it's about them as a band..but also sending a message to all their fans to just be yourself.
Submitted by: anonymous Basically this song is about how famous FOB became in a short period of time, "Last summer we took threes across the board but by fall we were a cover story" and how everyone is trying to change them but they won't let them, "make us poster boys for your scene but we are not making an acceptance speech" and how people flip-flop liking them, "the afterlife crowds are won and lost and won again"
Submitted by: anonymous I think the line
Submitted by: anonymous 45 might refer to vinyl records... am I really that old that no one else saw the connection? maybe, maybe not, I'm not the one that wrote it.
Submitted by: marie72093 This song is about how hard they worked until they got what they wanted. Also about how much people work to get what they want, but some people don't make it.
Submitted by: anonymous NO NO NO this song is about the internet. Pete said this in a show that it is about all the BS about that he reads about himself or Patrick..
