With anyone who will lie down
I'll be stuck fixated on one star
When the world is crashing down

I think that Fob is just so desperate that he will sleep with anyone to temporarily ease the pain of his other loss (the girl).

I think that he can't get the girl he wants and just watches her from a distance, but he is desperate to be with her.

They are straight edge. That won't work.

It's another song that tells a little bit about Pete's depression. The other part of the title is (Atavan Halen). Atavan is the drug he almost OD'd on... it provided him 7 minutes in heaven.

Actually only 3 of the 4 are straight edge and they don't call themselves a sXe band, but you're right, that explanation wouldn't work.

What does being straight edge have to do with who he sleeps with? Straight edge means they don't do drugs/drink alcohol. He can sleep with whomever he wants...

Another part of straightedge is no promiscuous sex. He can sleep with whomever he wants, but doing it just to ease the pain is breaking edge.

It's about how he almost ODed anyway

Uhh, no, that's "I've got a dark alley and a bad idea that says you should shut your mouth" about the OD get the facts straight

You're right, I misspoke. I meant to say that's what the "atavan" part of the title was referring to. I'm aware of what "I've got a dark alley..." is about.

About the straight-edge thing, not everyone includes the sex part.

I don't know about Pete's personal beliefs, but I think it's debating with himself whether he wants to dwell on his relationship gone awry or whether he wants to get over it. What he knows is that he doesn't want to be alone anymore and he's trying to figure out what he wants to do about it.

And I think "I'm having another episode, I just need a stronger dose" as well as the title are references to Pete's depression and reference to the incident in "Summer Song."

This song is about the singer telling that his girlfriend cheated on him. That's what I think.

It's not really that complicated. In a way, it means what it says....?

Since no one has mentioned this, I'd like to say that the subtitle "Atavan Halen" is referencing 'Van Halen', which fits into the whole 80's pop culture theme.

Wow. This has gotta be the most civilized argument about the meaning of a song I've ever seen. Cheers to you all.

Personally I have no idea. I just know that the song's totally awsome. :)

OK, first...
Yes, Ataven-Pete-OD-depression...accurate.
but that's just like a blanket to describe his overall feeling.
Fall Out Boy has mostly songs about relationships...i mean they are borderline emo...dont get me wrong, theyre awesome, but emo nonetheless.
the song is about relationships and how people use sex and relationships as a means of relief and simultaneous self destruction. Sex and atavan are both tools he uses for relief, this song just makes that connection

Okay, you've got to be wrong on the whole Atavan Halen part relating to Pete's OD. That was Ativan, not Atavan... So that doesn't really work. Does it?

Come on now... The drug is called atavan... pay attention, now, as a friend from high school of the band (wilmette, IL) pete od'd on atavan... nearly killed him (or did for what felt like 7 minutes... Song title?)

It's about how pete almost over dosed on atavan...That's obvious...

Atavan Halen - I think its like the wheel of fortune before and after category; for example - super bowl of soup combining super bowl and bowl of soup. ata-van halen, combining the drug and the band

About the atavan halen part...
It could be talking about the drug (atavan)
And his seven minutes in heaven, or whatever, could have been "at a van halen" concert. Although that's pretty old school or whatever, I think it's worth considering :P
