Fall Out Boy - I'm Like A Lawyer With the Way I've Been Trying To Get You.. Song Meanings

Lyrics:
Last year's wishes
Are this year's apologies
Every last time I come home
I take my last chance
To burn a bridge or two
I only keep...

This song is about a guy who was crazy in love with this girl, but when he finally went out with her he realize how big of a mistake it was, "Last year's wishes are this year's apologies every last time I come home" Now he is stuck with what he has but he say it isn't that bad "to realize 2 out of 3 ain't bad"

I think it's about youth as a whole and how they are placed and viewed in this world. Part of being youthful is falling in love like every other day, so "last year's wishes are this year's apologies." Also I think the song's about a guy wanting to be with a girl...like every other fob song now that I think of it. The new face of failure is referring to kids, basically and how kids need to make it through with our "bulletproof loneliness" and by constantly reminding ourselves that "2 out of 3 ain't bad."

This song is obviously about the past lyrics from other songs. You know, like "I hope you choke and crash your car", "stop burning bridges and drive off of them" etc...
hence,
Last years wishes (referring to past lyrics)
Are this years apologies (saying he's sorry)

I only keep myself this sick in the head
Cause I know how the words get you
(hes saying, I only write this stuff cause I know that my words hurt you)

More a question than an interpretation: do they deliberately quote meatloaf - "two out of three ain't bad"? or is it just coincidence?

"The best way to make it through with hearts and wrists intact is to realize two out of three ain't bad."

Two wrists, one heart. He's had his heart broken, but he isn't killing himself over it.

It's about this guy whose in love with his best friend, so when she gets married, he finds a desperate attempt to show his love
"me and you, setting in a honeymoon"

and he was wondering if she would feel the same, and not ruin their friendship

" if I woke up next to you"

I totally agree with this one... It's the only thing that sounds right to me

This song is totally written for Ashley Simpson. Pete totally blew it on the radio with his laugh. Its so easy he like practically said it.

well.
i would have to say this seems like it would be for ashlee. (unfortunately).
--We're the new face of failure
Prettier and younger but not any better off
=new couple. younger and, well...pete's prettier :)
but they're just like a lot of others and fight.
--From a sour bottle baby girl
With eyes the size of baby worlds
=maybe ashlee acts a little "sour"? like...complaining alot?
and maybe he likes her eyes? haha.
--Bullet proof loneliness
At best, at best
=they're trying to make the best of it.
but they're still in bullet proof lonlyness.
--Last year's wishes
Are this year's apologies
Every last time I come home
=maybe what pete's been wishing in the past, he's saying sorry for when he comes back (in his mind).
or maybe ashlee should?
--I only keep myself this sick in the head
Cause I know how the words get you
=its pretty much he's kind of testing her to see if she really loves him or not. Saying and doing stuff he knows will get to her. and seeing what she does.
--Collect the bad habits
That you couldn't bare to keep
Out of the woods but I love
=same thing. He's collecting the habits she can't bare to see what "comes out of the woods"
--The best way
To make it through
With hearts and wrists intact
Is to realize
Two out of three ain't bad
=like...the only way to stay alive, is to not pick at everything, and if you really love something, try to make the best of it (like they are)
--Me and you
Setting in a honeymoon
=if she can stand this he'll know she really loves him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i could be wrong.
it could be about the kids.
--We're the new face of failure
prettier and younger
but not any better off
=the kids are young. but they still face the same failure and arnt any better off.
--etc.
(notice the video takes place in uganda, where the war's going on)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
it could really be anything.
pete wentz is a very deep person.
and I've been studying his writing for a long time.
and I'm finally starting to figure him out.
its not an easy thing to do.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fall out boy made the lyrics so you would think one thing that sounds totally right and so obvious, but it really means something else. when you first see it, you think a guy falling in love, honeymoon, etc.. . "We're the new face of failure, prettier and younger but not better off. bulletproof loneliness, at best, at best" this generation is so worked up on all the drama that they don't realize what is important in life like the people in Uganda and Darfur. "The best way to make it through, with hearts and wrists intact. Is it to realize two out of three ain't bad, ain't bad." Realize that if something went wrong in your life, 2 out of 3 ain't bad. Because people out there have it worse, think of the world.
O my god. That person who said it was about past lyrics is retarded. and no it's not about Ashlee because they don't write things like that because then they'd be the worst band of the year instead of best.
I think it's about love and heartbreak in the teenage life.
