Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky

Living for today

Quite simply, heaven (or hell) is something we create on this planet. It's a song about what divides us and what should be uniting us to make heaven on Earth. One of my favorite songs.

This is a beautiful song and it has a simple meaning. It describes what true communism would mean, that's why he says no religion, no possessions, and no countries. Most say this is impossible, but I think if the human race can survive long enough, thousands or even millions of years into the future, this song will become a reality.

Religious Beliefs have caused more wars than money.
Communism was a reality in early society, but It couldn't last.
The song's called "Imagine" because it will never be together.

Wasn't it a Millionaire who said "imagine no possessions?"

One of my favorite quotes:
"Wasn't it a millionaire who said, 'Imagine no Possessions?'"

Lennon was a communist, he admitted it, and I think that right there tells the story about his songs. I'm not saying they aren't god, just that I don't like communism.

In my opinion Imagine is an amazing song. I think he was trying to get us to think what we could achieve if we would put aside are race, are political views, are religions, and would live together in peace without the need to fight or bicker.

I Think That the song is supposed to symbolize peace. That we create our own dreams. Truly "we are all dreamers". And together we can change our world. When he says "imagine all the people living for today" he means we must live our lives to the fullest why have hatred? Let's take the words for an amazing man and allow "the world to live as one"(in Peace).

The meaning of the song is, in my opinion, true communism. "No possessions,""A brotherhood of man,""No religion too" are some of the lines that portrays communist beliefs. Communism, if I could explain, portrays the possibility that man could unite, be treated equally and share all their possessions and that separate beliefs such as religion are the reason why people are fighting all the time (from the Crusades to the Iraq War). Of course, it's impossible to attain true communism (countries who consider themselves communists are actually socialists). People accept the song because it's kinda sugar-coated and made by John Lennon.

John Lennon's song is a piece that tries to test the world's view against religion, war, possessions, and peace. The song sends a pricking message to the whole world; it may have contradicted to their ideals and views on how life should be lived and how the world should be treated. But his message is something wonderful and calm. What if all of us tries to stop and live the moment and forget all about religion, wars, and our possessions, then we will attain peace--the kind of peace that transcends towards all humanities, saying, we are all but one brothers. After all, religion is not anything we should live for; religion can't save us, it's our faith. If all are equal, the world will not be divided and all of us shall live a peaceful life; that is, free from worries and hatred.

I think that if John Lennon were here, he would be upset over the idea that his song has offended people still. as the song says and the world will live as one which as we all should know that is the way god intended it to be, peaceful, "livin life in peace" but it was polluted by evil. its not a dream but reality that one day the world will live as one on the day when we will have heaven on earth and evil is smitten and we live forever in peace and harmony

This song is DEFINITELY not an Atheist anthem!

John is talking about things that he feels interferes with people living their life peacefully and the things that impede that - he's not saying there is no heaven or hell but he's saying that if there wasn't such a concept people would live for today - not worrying about the future (with the concept of Heaven and Hell, people aren't living for the day, but the afterlife, whatever that may be)

When he's saying imagine no countries or religions he explains himself right there - nothing to live or die for.

Man, the world lost one of their great ones on that sad day, I know he would've made a big impact and who knows, maybe our world would've been a little closer to his imagining.

If there was no hell or heaven, people would do whatever they want without worrying about their consequences. Peace would only be a reality if everyone searched for the same thing in life. It would also be kind of boring..
