It's about a ex-girlfriend that has a drinking problem and he tries to help her but he only gets shitted on in doing so... and he wishes he'd never tried!

It's about his ex-girlfriend and he saw that she had problem with drinking, but she didn't realise how bad of an alcoholic that she was and so he tried to help her and she blew him off. Now he's pissed that he ever tried to help her and he wishes that she wouldn't have ever been part of his life. So bassically he wants her to go fix her own problem and he wants to move on.

This is a song about a guy that loves a girl with a drinking problem that she's in denial about. He tries to help her but in the end he leaves her. He still loves her but he know it's for the better that there broken up.

I think that this song is about a guy who was with a girl at some point but she keeps coming back for help with something. (Maybe drinking? or another guy?)
Well, I recon she keeps coming back and he is helping her each time but he cant help her properly. So I suppose drinking would make sense or maybe she's coming back because she misses HIM but HE CANT be with her?

Ahh, so many thoughts.

Again, I think it is about a break up... can I ask why so many people think the girlfriend had a drinking problem? Because he says he's drunk, that is a very literal interpretation.

I think that his ex was in some kind of trouble, I'm thinking depression or she has some kind of issue that she has to fix by herself. He loves her still, that's why he's drunk, on the memories of them. Her or his memories keep coming back and "he just wants to be alone", and the painful memories of how much he loves her keep coming back, so he tears himself open to feel how much love was there, but ends up hurting himself more, making the break up harder to deal with. He wants to move on, "cant help you fix yourself.." He cares too much, because he still loves her. She didn't understand why he loves her still, she doesn't love him anymore, and she doesn't know why he is still in pain.... what do you think about all that then?

I may have this tendency to interpret this into many songs, but I think this song contains some definite implications of self harming. Maybe the whole thing about the drinking ex-girlfriend is true and a major part, but when he sings: "I tear my heart open, I sew myself shut
[...]
My scars remind me that the past is real
I tear my heart open just to feel"

He describes quite accurately what self harmers feel, tearing his heart open (or hurting himself, tearing his flesh open) only to be able to feel anything at all, but at the same time "sewing himself shut",(bottling up feelings of anxiety and aggression) and the scars remind him of everything that's happened... that was my first thought when I heard it, especially since there are indications of self injury in "last resort", too. "Don't give a fuck if I cut my arm bleeding".

This song is about how you can't change your past-"these scars remind me that the past is real" And that some people will do anything to try to forget it-"I'd tear my heart open, I'd sew myself shut" (these may not be the exact lyrics, but close enough). And how some people focus to much on their problems too have a life. "my weakness is that I care too much" And how some people want help for these problems, instead of fixing them by themselves-"GO FIX YOURSELF!!!I can't help you fix yourself, but at least I can say I tried, I'm sorry but I gotta move on with my own life"

I think everyone's interpretation on this song was based on the video. I just watched it and what everyone said fit the video exactly. Sometimes artists make the video different than what they originally wrote the song about. I'm not saying that is the case, I don't know. When I heard this song before I saw the video, my friend and I came to the conclusion that it was about a guy who had either cut himself in the past or had a friend who was cutting him/her self. That is what the lyrics sound like, but then if you watch the video it is about the alcoholic girlfriend, and so I don't know what it is. I guess the best place to find out would be to ask the writer!

Basically it's about someone in a relationship that took the wrong path and screwed up with their life. Like anyone in a relationship they helped their loved one but that person didn't appreciate it or realize it. That loved one felt helpless and its also destroying their life. This person did almost everything as it says in the lyrics "I tear my heart open" but they still seem to ignore it. So in the end they say well I got to move on with my own life and they break up.

The guy in this song is still in love with her, but she just wants to be friends and sees him as someone she can go to, but he can't take the pain of having her so close to him yet so far from where he wants to be. He's ready to move on, and also when he sees her its like a scar-not phsically but always a constant reminder of how he got it and the good times they shared.

It's not about a girl who had a drinking problem.. It's about a breakup. Drinking is problably a result of the heartache caused by trying to make things right but basically getting it thrown back at your face.

All I can say is that I can relate.

If you don't get distracted by the song vid clip's visuals or drowned by the guitar's heavy riffing....

The song is speak of the devil himself. About his plans how to bring up the lost israel nation back, by manipulating history and spreading false fact to the human race so that they use feelings as their guidance which will led then astray and weak. Drinking liquor is make a norm to the world by shouting the word drunk out loud. He thought that one day he could say to the world that the israel's were better race compared to others when moral value is gone in the human hearts.

He forgot... The Almighty plan is above all plans...

Wha the hell?? Buddy, I think you got the whole interpretation wrong. What the hell does a country and the devil have to do with "I tear my heart open and sow myself shut". That's all about love and breakup. Someone making a big effort in the relationship but the other person doesn't see that.

The song is about trying to help someone who really doesn't want you to help them. The lead singer wrote it after he self-harmed himself and ended up in the hospital in Las Vegas one night.

I have not actually seen the video; so without seeing it I think that it's about someone he knows who is self harming, I believe he is implying that he used to cut and he is trying to help the 'person' because he can see his own scars and he doesn't want that to happen to them.
It's a very powerful song, and I can really relate to this!

It's about a guy who's in love with a girl and throughout the whole relationship he does nothing but give everything of himself to her to help her, to be there for her, to save her from her demons with nothing in return. He finally decideds to leave although he still loves her and his heart's still open to her and she keeps coming back to try to win him back, but he's so fed up with focusing on purely her that he wants her out of his life, so he can move on, because the pain of being with her is too much to handle anymore, and he realises everything he did was for nothing because she took everything for granted and abused his love and trust. Be bared all for her with nothing in return.

I think that this song is about an ex-girlfriend and the guy is trying to help her with a drinking problem. He finally sees that it's totally useless and he ends up getting fucked trying to help her. He's pissed because his weakness is wanting to help her.
