To me this song is about finding someone who won`t get lost in the worlds many activities or events and won`t forget about you. Someone who will just ditch the world to be with you. Finnding someone you love so much that you cannot describe the way you feel about them, maybe you haven`t really met them but you know that some how you can`t forget about them. To find someone who won`t try and change you.

How I interpreted it was that it's pretty much a "test" or whatever, so that if you really care about someone, you'll just forget about everyone else, or forget about what they think about you, and talk to someone, hang out with them, work something out with them.

For me, this song is about two people who are in love, but because of their circumstances, they can never really be together. He just wants her to lie there with him, and for that moment, they can just forget about the world and be happy.

I believe that this song is talking about how he would like to become a dog and how sad a dog's life really is. If you examine as closely as I did, you will see that the dog's name is Orlando. Orlando is asking his owner if he would like to lay next to him and spend time with him because he is so lonely.
"If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me
And just forget the world"
Also one can tell the song refers to a dog because it says "Let's waste time, Chasing cars" This clearly shows that Snow Patrol is talking about a dog because what else other than a dog would chase cars. And If you are someone who chases cars for fun than by all means you do that, cause I mean if it floats your boat......... Anyway to sum it all up, Orlando is just lonely and wants to chill with someone.

This song is about someone that is deeply in love. The person is expressing how he/she feels as well as asking if the other person feels the same. "Those three words are said too much they're not enough". Even the words "I love you" are not enough to express how the person feels about the other, he/she is pretty much obsessed and wants the other person to feel the same way.

I think it has nothing to do directly with dogs, but the "chasing cars" thing is a reference to dogs. I read that Gary Lightbody's dad gave him some advice when he was infatuated with a girl. He told his son, "You're like a dog chasing a car. You'll never catch it, and you wouldn't know what to do with it if you did." (I did read it on wikipedia, so you never know if it's real or not). But still, it makes sense. I think he's saying that he thinks he's so in love with her, but perhaps he knows they aren't meant to be together. He knows he will never have her in his life, and even if he did, it wouldn't bring him complete happiness anyway. He knows in the back of his mind that it is a hopeless case, but his passion is so overwhelming that he can't help but tell her he loves her.

i think that this song really tells you that it is about finding someone that would give the world up just to be with you. also, that person would not try to change you.

This song is about love going by the line 'those three words, said too much but not enough"
This means that he I could be saying too much but to him its not enough because of how much he loves this person, and he's wondering if she loves him as much as he loves her "if I lay here would you lie with me and just forget the world" saying that they can be truly together in love without worrying bout anyone else and what they might think

I don't know where you got the name Orlando from......

We'll do it all
Everything
On our own
We don't need
Anything
Or anyone

I know how this feels. You're so in love with someone, you don't care what anyone else tells you to do, even if the person is all wrong for you. If you love them, you do what you want.

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

You just want to ignore everything else, to have that perfect moment, to forget all the bad things that may be going on around you.

I don't quite know
How to say
How I feel
Those three words
Are said too much
They're not enough

When you're in love, I love you can't fully express how you feel. It's said too often, too casually, to give the full meaning that you have inside.

Let's waste time
Chasing cars
Around our heads

This bit, I think may be just about wasting time in meaningless ways, just so you can be with that person a little bit longer.

I need your grace
To remind me
To find my own

You find a peace, a goodness, a happiness in that person, you want to be able to find it inside yourself, so that they feel the same way with you.

All that I am
All that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see

Could be metaphoric for you seeing yourself reflected in their eyes and you feel like you are a better because of them. Like you are even a part of them, and they are of you.

I don't know where
Confused about how as well
Just know that these things will never change for us at all

You may not remember where or how you met them, but you know you love them and you know that you wan to always love them. And you don't know what is going to happen later, but you don't want to stop being in love with them.

this is long and may be off track, but it works for me. :)

I totally agree with everyone who thinks this has something to do with dogs. After my recent divorce its just me and the dog. We are all we have for each other. Three words mean nothing to him because he doesn't speak english. He does however, chase cars. And he will lay here with me, and just forget the world. - Kristie

Whoever came up with the interpretation about the dog Orlando I give you lots of credit for creativity lol its great! I personally relate this song a lot to an amazing memory I have of driving around aimlessly in the middle of the night. Just letting go of all your cares, worries, and stresses, living for now with the person or people you love. No matter what happens after that moment you are still connected and always will be.

I always think it's someone lying all alone in a half empty house wondering about what happened.
what is going on.
and what will happen in the future.

maybe he did something or she did but they have to decide.
how they will go on.
i think he wants to move on (show me our daughter ....)

I think it's about wasting time, just being with the person you love and doing nothing, just being together and being happy doing nothing, not worrying about other people or circumstances. I love this song so much.

I think this song is about finding true love (I know, it sounds cheesy). Just finding someone who will go to the ends of the earth for you, and how special that person is.

I love this song! To me it is about an affair....two people who come from different worlds and when they are together everything else in their worlds fade. Chasing cars could be something that they will never catch but still nice to think of! Those three words, (I Love You) but if they say them to each other its too much said because they both have others.

It's about a bloke who wants someone who would drop everything to be with him. He wants somebody he can be with and adore but he can't quite get her.

He's chasing cars is symbolic of how he is chasing something he will never quite catch. Cars are just too hard to keep up with in the long run. He will never have that but while the "car" is starting up they're slow. Maybe he is talking about how he has to seize the opportunity to chase the car now while he can before it speeds up and he won't be able to catch somebody who would love him like he needs them to.
