John wrote this song about him and Yoko. The rest of the band got sort of tense and weren't exactly happy about her being at all the sessions and recordings and stuff, but him and Yoko were just openly in love. So he felt everyone around them were paranoid except for the two of them.

"Me and my monkey" comes from a twist by John. In a newspaper cartoon, the cartoonist depicted John and Yoko as a man (John) with a monkey on his back (Yoko). John decided to use the clever twist in his song about him and Yoko.

During the Anthology interviews George credits the Maharishi as some direct inspiration for a few lyrics (Come on you're such a joy, i.e.)

I am a youngster in eighth grade and for an english project, I studied Beatles lyric interpretations. In my studies I found a book that described their songs and albums and intentions, called beatlesongs by william golding. It said that John said he felt as if "everyone was paranoid except for [he] and Yoko. They were in the glow of love."

Okay, first of all, WILLIAM GOLDING wrote LORD OF THE FLIES so your source is probably wrong.
What I heard (in The Beatles Anthology) is that this song was written when they went to that spiritual rest place... They said that basically, the song was describing what they had learned there - except for the monkey part.
Check your sources.

Alright above, you got the spiritual part right. Although some of it may be about John and Yoko, its a sex song in my opinion. Monkey = male genetalia. Cmon = shout during intercourse- you get my point. I have no research on this, but it sounds like something the beatles would do. And yes, William Golding wrote Lord of the flies.

Well, 8th grader guy. It could be a different writer by the same name, so don't get discouraged. Anyway I think this, as many of the Beatles songs can be interpreted in any way you want, but I am thinking on the paranoia one. That sounds most logical to me.

The 8th grader is right and I hope that he got an a on that project. My sources say the same thing. (encyclopedia by bill harry)

This song was written in 68. They had already left India after discovering Guru Dev (the song across the universe...jai guru deva) is about their spiritual leader Guru Dev and what a fraud he turned out to be. So why would this song refer to him....especially in a positive sense??? It's about him and that moron Yoko.
