This song is about Mia Farrows sister Prudence. When they were in india with the Ravi guy, they were spending much of their time meditating. Prudence Farrow was trying to reach the highest level of meditation. She was very stressed out and everyone was worried about her. John especially took a liking to her. She would not come out of her tent. She constantly would meditate. No matter how much the boys or anyone else asked her, she wouldn't come out. So John wrote the song and would sing it to her. Hence "Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play" I am familiar with the meaning of most of their songs, I've have done extensive research. I am a huge Beatle fan, I love this band, the greatest band to ever play.

One of the other reasons she wouldn't leave the room was because the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was sexually harassing her. The guy was a complete fake douche bag.

The tent thing makes so much sense...if you've seen Across the Universe.

Across the universe sucked. And it had nothing to do with the Beatles. It is a musical with its own plot line that just sings Beatles songs. They took the 10 "most known" songs from the Beatles and strung them together to make some dumb plot. Jude was hot though. But that chick totally butchered Why don't we do it in the road. which is one of the best songs Paul ever did.

To the person before me:

Across the Universe wasn't supposed to be about the Beatles. It's an anti-war movie about the sixties. And since it's a musical, what better songs to put in but one of the most popular bands of that time? Maybe you should read about the movie before you go judging it.

And also, maybe you should appreciate the movie because it was great. So many political views were included in it, it is one of the greatest movies ever created, in my opinion. It expressed the sixties very well.

Also to the person dissing atu:
the songs used acted as the plot line. The director took her own interpretations of the song and made the plot line out of them. She was simply doing what everyone on here does, stating her own interpretation. The movie was amazingly constructed, wonderfully casted, and a visual treat in itself. you should actually try giving things a chance instead of assuming what you do not know. not about the Beatles? there were a MILLION references towards the band in the movie. The characters' names, numbers appearing in the movie, certain quotes characters said, the names of places in the movie. Its obvious you didn't watch the movie, because the director is obsessed with the Beatles and the band is the foundation for the entire movie.

I totally agree with you about Across the Universe. I loved it. I especially loved how they used the Beatles to express an anti-war opinion. I watched that movie at least 3 times in one day. It was so moving, every part of it. I wish so badly to be born in the 60's. So much history and the Beatles played a big part of it.

Also, in across the universe, I noticed two references to Jimi Hendrix, that had to do with the black guy, I forget his name.

The the person above me, I'm pretty sure that the person you're referring to was supposed to be a Jimi Hendrix, and Sadie was supposed to be a Janis Joplin.
