Paul McCartney wrote this for John Lennon's son Julian to confort him while his father (John Lennon) and his mom (Cynthia) were divorcing afer an 8 year marrige. In my opinion I really disslike John Lennon because after he divorced Cynthia he married Yoko Ono and had a son (Sean) and just forgot about his other son (Julian) and didn't pay attention to him.

the moment "you let her under your skin" as in inject heroine..sorry. However, that part is just about as plain as day,
anonymous 2007-02-15 00:41:53
Actually Paul came up with the name jude because it was derived from jules (julian lennon) and it sounded more western. And yes it was written to comfort julian during his parents divorce. I don't know why so many people think it has to do with heroin. People are trying to share serious interpretations and then you just come up with that garbage. None of the beatles even used the drug. There's probably only about 5% of their songs or less that are about drugs or were inspired by drugs. You need to get lives.

it is soooo about julian!!! heroine people are idiots.

+, guy who said he was paul, also an idiot.
Dontpassmeby 2007-03-08 21:48:43
it is so not about heroine!!! the beatles are most known for using marijuana! still, I see your point...

hey to the person with the remark about lucy in the sky with diamonds...um yeah hello for those out there that haven't gottne this before: it's about lsd..duh. lucy. In the sky. with diamonds. pretty obvious. you can't argue that one. So if they said that it was about the kid for that one, it was probably both concepts. So I think its the same with hey jude. Sometimes two concepts just fit together to make one song. He probably started it for julian, and incorporated the idea of heroine into it so the song was more complex. Its how good music is made. Its not always straight up about one thing.

Jude is John's word for blood, you let it into your heart it makes you better.

Ok. I was just wondering....what does the line, "You're waiting for someone to perform with. But don't you know that it's just you....Hey Jude, you'll do." mean?
anonymous 2007-04-16 21:03:06
Yes, this song is about John Lennon's son Julian, the lyrics are 'hey jude' but actually is 'hey jules' jude sounded better then jules so they decided to use it and it was supposed to act as a lullaby sounding song during Lennon's divorce

For the record Cynthia Lennon is John Lennon's sister, not his wife!

Hey Jude is about Lennon's son Julian, but people can interpret songs any way they want to.

Just my opinion

Paul has said in the Anthology that he wrote it for Julian. He was in his mind talking to Jules "hey Jules, don't make it bad, take a sad song and make it better" meaning it will all be alright. "Jules" turned out to be a mouthful so he changed it to "Jude"

Paul's least favorite line "the movement you need is on your shoulder" was John's favorite line.

Boo :)

Whoever said that Cynthia Lennon was John Lennon's sister, you're wrong. She WAS his wife.

And to all the others in here:
Well, I've heard that the song was written by Paul for John's son Julian, and that's what I think too.

And it REALLY annoys me that so many people always say that a lot of the Beatles' songs were about drugs. Some of them may be about drugs, but I absolutely don't think this one is about drugs. I just doesn't make any sense to me!
anonymous 2007-05-27 16:32:10
I don't see how anyone can say this song is about drugs..Paul wanted to comfort Johns first wife and son after their split..
anonymous 2007-06-04 14:46:13
It's just ridiculous that all of you would completely throw out the heroin theory. I'm not saying I think it's right, but you can't just think it's stupid because it would ruin the song for you. It could be about anything, only the Beatles know.
anonymous 2007-07-02 13:48:26
It's not about Jude Law. C'mon. It's about Judaic Law. What could be clearer?

I have heard, and I feel this is pretty accurate, that Paul wrote this song for John's first son, Julian, who was pretty much overlooked by John and played second priority to Sean, John and Yoko's son. And this was a heartfelt song from Paul to Julian (Jude). Which to me, makes it that much more meaningful that Paul would write an entire hit song dedicated to a talented and somewhat negleted first born. When I heard this and listened to the words again, it gave the song (and Paul's compasion) a whole new meaning.
anonymous 2007-07-10 16:05:56
I do not think that the song refers to heroin in the second verse where it says "her". Then the verse would be

Hey, Jude, don't be afraid
You were made to go out and get heroin
The minute you let heroin under your skin
Then you begin to make it better.

That would be good if Paul McCartney was comedian, however he is not.

To me, and to most others the song is about the divorce between the Lennon's and telling the son everything will be okay basically.
anonymous 2007-07-15 17:54:45
Ok....yes it IS about Julian...i think we get that part...but it is saying several things 1. don't blame your mom 2. don't blame yourself 3. love yoko and 4. (which no one seems to get) DON'T BE AFRAID TO LOVE!! he's saying life is best for a man if he has a woman to love in his life...let her into your heart let her under your skin (as in you are so close you are practically the same person) and that "the movement you need is on your shoulders" I think is about letting her inspire you b/c a movement is a part of a song...for whoever was wanting to know
anonymous 2007-07-25 00:14:44
It is about heroin. Whoever thinks it isn't and that The Beatles weren't on drugs, is apparently not a fan and knows nothing about the Beatles.

These back and forth arguments are idiotic.

thanksbye.
