see link http://www.geocities.com/~beatleboy1/dba12let.html PAUL circa-1994: "One night during this tense time I had a dream I saw my mum, who'd been dead ten years or so. And it was great to see her because that's a wonderful thing about dreams, you actually are reunited with that person for a second... In the dream she said, 'It'll be alright.' I'm not sure if she used the words 'Let it be' but that was the gist of her advice, it was 'Don't worry too much, it will turn out okay.' It was such a sweet dream I woke up thinking, 'Oh, it was really great to visit with her again.' I felt very blessed to have that dream."

I believe that 2007-01-31 18:24:41 is right... We need to get the facts straight and listen to what Paul has to say. Many people have different ideas and some of them contradict others. The truth of the matter is that we need to be listening and not arguing. We just need to get our attitude adjusted, listen up and "Let It Be." The song was written for application purpose. Just leave it.

Isn't this song really about Mother Maria Sabina, famous mexican and traditional healer? Her practice was based on the use of the various species of native psilocybe mushrooms. It is rumored, that many important 60s celebrities visited Maria Sabina, including rock stars such as Bob Dylan and John Lennon...

I think it is important to think about the historical time period when the song was written. I think the lyrics "let it be" can be applied to the belief of the counter culture (hippies) that if one leaves conflict alone, the result is peace, love, and harmony. This referring to the war in Vietnam. I don't want to offend major Beatles fans or anything. The Mother Mary may be Paul's mom. But I think a song may have more then one meaning and certainly more then one interpretation.

Lennon is talking about mother mary of christ. The song represents when something bad happens in your life, there is nothing you can do about it. Let the situation sit. Things will get better and I don't think anyone can into John Lennon's head and find out the whole Mother Mary thing. The message that John Lennon is trying to get across is let it be. Don't fight or read into things too far. This song was not written for people to hang on every lyric. The words LET IT BE get the point across just fine.

Yeah F.T.R whoever you are. You're an idiot, McArtney's Father wasn't named Mary, his mother on the other hand....

I liked the mother mary jane theory. =] and something I didn't like was when someone said that "only one person is right, there's only one meaning"...thats not true...the beauty of music and especially the beatles is how it enables you to think and interpret the lyrics how you want.

Let it be can translated to "amen". Mother Mary can have multiple meanings and I believe that he left it vague for a reason. Considering how popular religious references are in songs, especially if they are subtle, I believe that he wanted people to draw the inference that Mother Mary was the Virgin Mary. I also believe that the song began as a tribute to his dead mother but in the songs development he took a different path and consciously used words to allude to the Virgin Mary as being the subject of this song.

It's not about drugs. I myself am a massive Beatles fan, and I believe that they wrote most of their sons for the lyrics to have different meanings depending on who you are.

Mother Mary = Marijuana

The song is called "Let It Be." It wasn't meant to be understood or analyzed; it's a tune, a melody, a music, and it's comforting. The irony is that everyone's trying to put their two sense in. The band just wanted peace...for all to know a calm is attainable. We just have to "let it be."

I don't know if it's about the blessed mother or Paul's mom, but I think he's just simply saying let it be. There will be an answer don't fight it just let it be

Although it may have a specific meaning to Paul it is still a work of art. What it means to him and what he meant by it can be interpreted differently by different people and that is what art is. You cannot say art means one thing or another. And even when its creator says what it is, different people still get different things out of it and that is ok.

The song is what it is... Let it be.

Hi every one. ...to me, this song is just a nice reminder that everything will work out in the end. That if we all just "let it be" things will be ok. That all of our issues will at one point be resolved, and that not everyone has an answer. ...now, I'm not a crazy insane Beatles fan, and I don;t really know, or care for that matter who the hell mother mary is, but I guess I have always interpreted it as being the virgin mary. not his dead mother-but hey! ...whatever floats your boat. ...this has always been one of my favorite songs, and I think that it has a good message. and can be important to anyone however we might interpret it. personally, this song has helped me a lot to get through hard times...when I'm sad, and I'm trying to get over something...i listen to this song...and try to remember to let it be. because weather it's Pauls dead mother, or Christ's, these 3 simple words could mean a lot to all of us, and are very much words of wisdom. we should all remember to let it be. Think about it.

Mother Mary ¿jane?...

Let it be done unto me according to your word--the words of the Virgin Mary to the Angel Gabriel, giving God her full consent to participate in His saving plan. Paul McCartney clearly meant the song to have religious significance, even if it did start out as a dream about his mother.
