I think the song is about someone dying and they're saying goodbye to all the people they're leaving behind.

I find the song lyrics really meaningful, the chorus has a really strong meaning.
Wow, I really love this song.

Tom Delonge: "This song is about when you die, and you've just realized you died. You're looking at your lady, trying to say goodbye, and you can see her and you know she's there, but she can't see you and it's too late."

This is about Tom's daughter who has cystic fibrosis and has trouble breathing 'take my one last breathe'. This is also why toms new band is called Angels and Airwaves.

A great song.

I absolutely love this song! It's amazing! I think the lyrics are really cool, especially the first few lines: "Come here, please hold my hand, Lord, now help me, I'm scared please show me how to fight this, God has a master plan and I guess, I am in his demand." Definitely one of my favorite songs now!

This song was written ages ago and was to be released with on the take off your pants and jacket album but was thought to be not to suiting for it. Its not about his daughter as it was written before she even existed.
Also everyone on this website are twats, I'm a song writer and I purposely make songs now that mean nothing but I know to others they'll somehow find stupid meanings in them.
ok I've finsihed my rant *BLINK-182 ROCK!*

Hey! this song was not written for Take off your pants and jacket... It was one of the songs written for the selftitled album... In one video in the oficial website of blink-182 you can see tom (in the house where they were writing and recording songs for the selftitled album) writing this song... The chorus... It was a little bit different but, almost the same... ok, that was it...

I feel the song is about Martyrdom. "God has a masterplan, and I guess I am in His demand" "and now I have come to realize that you are the one who is left behind" which means my conviction is right, and you will be left behind.

it also could be about Conscription (draft):

"its useless, my name has made the list...and I wish I gave you one last kiss.."

this song pretty much is about a guy dying and his girl is sad and crying and he's telling her that he'll come back soon....and to stay until he's finally gone.

i think that this song is about a person that is dying and he's thinking that his name has made the list so there's no use in fighting it. The song also states the lyrics "this time I can not run" which shows that this person can not escape death. The person is thinking about all the people that he's leaving behind, and he see's the light and it feels good to him. He's also telling everyone whos with him to stay until he's gone, don't leave until he's passed on.and that he will see everybody that he's left behind again one day. To me this blink-182's best song and will be forever, it is so much more emotional than any other song that they have made, Blink-1824ever!

its about a guy saying goodbye before he has died, "Please save me" and "this time I cannot run" and "you are the one who's left behind" and "please stay until I'm gone" and "I'm here hold on" and "I see the light; it feels good" and "Its useless, my name has made the list and I wish I gave you one last kiss" and "and take my one last breath" Its just so sad; because I think its not just about a guy saying goodbe to the one he loves, its them saying goodbye to fans, not so subtly saying they're breaking up and blink 182 will just be the past, a memory. we miss you guys altogether, Travis, Mark, Tom. Why didn't you stay together for the kids?

This is one of my fav blink songs. Its just so beautifully composed, the words are really meaningful.

This song is about death, saying goodbye and the realisation that this death will have an impact on the ones he/she leaves behind, or rather that one person he/she can't live without that they have to leave behind. The song title in itself suggests that he/she doesn't want to go. NOT NOT anyway.

The first verse:

Come here, please hold my hand, Lord, now
Help me, I'm scared please show me how
To fight this, God has a master plan
And I guess, I am in his demand

Is about the person trying to be strong about the inevitable, they want to be strong about the situation and is asking for God's help. "God has a master plan and I guess, I am in his demand" is suggesting that God's plan is that their life will be taken. And his demand is meaning that he is needed, that it is his destiny to leave this earth and be in heaven or wherever else you go after death and his time is now.

The second verse:

Please save me, this time I cannot run
And I'll see, you when this is done
And now I, have come to realize
That you are, the one who's left behind

The person doesn't want to die but they know that they can't stop the inevitable. They can't run away from their destiny and the way their life is going to be taken away from them.
They still have faith that they will see that person who they have to leave behind, again in heaven perhaps?
But the realisation that they are still leaving back someone they hold dear hurts them.

The chorus:

Please stay until I'm gone
I'm here hold on to me
I'm right here waiting

They want that person to stay with them, in the hospital room, or in their bed at home, before they pass away and when they pass away.
But they are trying to make the most of this moment by still holding onto what they have left of life, and of love before they are taken away.'

The third verse:

I see, the light it feels good
And I'll come, back soon just like you would
It's use less, my name has made the list
And I wish, I gave you one last kiss

The person feels themselves leaving this life. But they want to see their loved one again, whether it be watching over them or visiting them in their dreams. Because they feel that if the loved one was in the same position they would do the same. That's how strongly this person feels towards the one they are leaving.
"Its useless my name has made the list" this line I'm abit confused about. I believe it could mean two things.
It could either mean that this person name has made the list in an obituary. Stating that they have died or will die. or it could mean made the list in terms of God's list as to whom he has to take away from this earth.
And they wish they had been able to give their loved one, one last kiss before they passed on.

the repetition of:

Please stay until I'm gone
I'm here hold on to me
I'm right here waiting
And take my one last breath
And don't forget
That I will be right here waiting

Is the same as what I have mentioned earlier. But the last three lines, are about living life for those brief few seconds more, to take one last breath of life and the one they love, and letting them know, they will be waiting for them, when its their time to go.

WOW noobs. Blink 182 wrote this song already and it was released on an atticus album, but not on a blink 182 album until their greatest hits album. The song 'not now' was released on the Atticus cd in 2001, around the same time as Take off your pants and jacket. It's the Atticus album with the pink cover, CHECK IT OUT if you don't believe me.

Ok for all of you this song was written by tom during the tour after the release of enema of the state. Yes it was written before toms daughter ava existed and no it was not supposed to be released on toypaj or self-titled (which is really just untitled not self said by mark). It was to be an unreleased song(like others before them) but after the break up of blink a greatest hits album was started and this song along with another girl another planet would be placed on it. That's it

I always thought this song was just about leaving someplace and not knowing when you were coming back. but when I was with my grandfather when he was dying, all of a sudden it hit me...the song is about dying...its saying how God has made his decision on your life, and how you wish you could go back and do all these things.
