Can I get your hand to write on
Just a piece of lead to bite on
What am I to fly my kite on
Do you want to flash your light on
Take a ...

It has come to my understanding that this song is referring to the tragic events of 9/11. "take a look, its on display" is referring to all the media attention this event received. "fly away all my zephyrs... Youll live forever" zephyr= a breeze or gentle wind. I think in this context he's speaking of all the spirits of the victims floating upward. "in this perfect weather" referring to the clear and sunny weather the day the towers fell. "rev it up to levitator, super friendly aviator" referring to the planes used in the hijackings. Rhcp did the ultimate by remembering the victims of that terrible day with this moving song. Excellent way to go!! Rock on!!

Thanks for that bit of american patriotism, which I happen to think is idiotic, but hey. This songs focus is on drugs, and anthony's struggle with them. "pick it up its not to strong for you take a piece and pass it on." this has clear drug use overtones. He talks about their effect on him too,
"in the water where the scent of my emotion
all the world will pass me by
fly away on my zephyr
were gonna live forever."
great song. Suprised there aren't more interpretations.

i agree with the person above and if you watch the video, hell you don't need drugs! not to criticise or anything but how many songs do they have about taking drugs and staying clean? I don't mean it in a bad way =D

um yeah, but um when did the song cum out wasn't it b4 the twin towers so yeah it would just be about drugs then. Same as usual. you no all rhcp songs r 'bout drugs - well it think so anyway, I can't think of any that aren't.
im open to discussion on that by the way

Yes, you could interpret it on a drug addiction context, but more that that, I think it is of peace. Of a world-forgetting tendency. 'All the world can pass me by'. This means, no worries, no matter what happens, 'I'm gonna live forever'. FLY AWAY, on my zephyr, some kind of light breeze or wind, relaxing, calm. Drugs, can be also related, as come cause the typical feeling of freedom, 'I feel it more than ever, and in this perfect weather, we'll find a place together'. Together, high feeling maybe? because, there is no love reference in the song. But I stick to my position of no-drugs. The song is about pure freedom, of mind, body, soul, etc.

I'm not sure if the song has anything to do with 911, but I sure as hell don't think patriotism is idiotic!! I'm sure any survivor of 911 will agree! Maybe that interpretation was submitted by a foreigner... But hey.

first guy. your stupid.
anyway. a zephyr is a west wind so, fly away on my zephyr= fly away on my west wind= get away from it all, also more evidence is the lyicin this this perfect weather and the following two lines.
unrelated the truth is,i looked it up, it is about starting anew.

also guy that said he couldn't think of any non-drug related songs, you r stupid, let me think.... oh yea, dani california, tell me baby, animal bar,... This, if(the song).

post a 1 at the top of your interpritation if you agree with me

I think that Keides is a bit more open minded than to take a one sided view on 9/11. If it was about the attacks Keides would probably portray it as the hijackers story of what drove him to to it.

I have another interpretation, to me it sounds like Anthony's talking about the surf. Remember, these guys grew up in the 70s and 80s, he's talking about flying on his Zephyr Surfboard. That explains 'the perfect weather' and the 'find a place together'. However, I am not disagreeing with the other interpretations.

I think this song is purely about his experience of getting/being high.

Seriously...there are 3 real opinions here...drugs/peace/patriotism the last is obviously wrong considering the time the song came out....the first two are probably both right...

How about the 1970 Zephyr skateboard team, the Z-boys? Considering they were the first real pioneers of skateboarding, using their experience and their love for surfing, and thereby creating the now typical Californian lifestyle. The lyrics really make sense that way, especially "find a way to be a skater"

Hmm..well everyone is fighting about it...maybe it is like great art, you interpret however you want, whether it be patriotism, drugs, peace, surfing, etc., its whatever you feel. They all are great guesses though. Great song!

Okay, this first part is meant for the guy who wanted people to put a one if they agreed with him. It's not right calling anyone stupid...This is an interpretation forum, anyone can say whatever. I can say right now that I think this song is about a chocolate bar and I have the right to do that. I don't think that this song is about a chocolate bar, though, or 9/11, but it's a good interpretation. That first guy obviously put a lot of thought into that. Oh, and also, did you even stop to think that maybe the other guy you called stupid hadn't heard the Stadium Arcadium album yet? Interesting...

I personally think that this song is about Anthony's struggle with drugs and also about how some people allow themselves to get rooted down to a specific ideal, so they should let themselves be blown in another direction, hence the zephyr reference, because a zephyr is a west wind. It's a beautiful song.
