Tool - Eulogy Song MeaningsLyrics:He had alot to say. He had alot of nothing to say. We’ll miss him. (2x) We’re gonna miss him (2x) So long. We wish you well. ... (See the rest of these lyrics) Submitted by: King Fish Added: 2004-10-13 12:10:41   Rating: ![]() ![]() Maynard was very disappointed in the fall of Cobain. He kept his dissatisfied opinions, for the most part, to himself. Cobain would often make general comparisons to himself and Jesus, which is a real quick way to annoy the lead singer of Tool. All evidence does point to the apparent fact that Maynard had a respect for Kurt Cobain that can only be described as conditional. In honesty, how could anyone ignore the rise and fall of Nirvana?

Submitted by: anonymous First off, this song is a clearly a sarcastic stab at the absurdity of christianity and its teachings. Maynard wants to emphasize the level of desperate attention jesus was seeking: a man who was nothing more than an exceptional man. Maynard expresses how ridiculous it is that a man who claimied his divinity and leadership could die the death of a martyr when the alleged purpose was to profess commitment by a sacrificial death. There should have been no confusion or surprise when jesus was allegedly sacrificed because he announced his superiority and in doing that he beccame completely vulnerable to persecution. This song is simply a refutation of the plauisbilty behind the story of jesus' crucifixion. Lastly, for any of those people that were convinced Maynard would abandon logic and submit to the teachings of any arganized religion are not what I would consider, intelligent TOOL fans.

Submitted by: anonymous Well Maynard has said himself its not about Cobain or Jesus or
Submitted by: anonymous A lot of songs by tool are left to the interpretation of the listener, don't waste time wondering what the hell something means, it only matters what the song means to one's self.
Submitted by: anonymous No kidding, I think you are wasting your time acting like you are superior and the best Tool fan out there. They are a great band, don't get me wrong, and Maynard is awesome, but we are entitled to our own opinion? Don't name call because it is different than yours.
Submitted by: anonymous Christianity is gay shit, all religion is. If you listen to tool or anything like it, your not a Christian.
Submitted by: anonymous As with anything Maynard has a part in writing, there is knowledge to be found. On the surface it would appear this is about Bill Hicks. Look a little deeper and it appears to be Jesus Christ. In my opinion, it could be any of those or all including any random idiot with his head held high but there is nothing in it. Any Tool fan would know that if they look deep enough into the references in the lyrics, they can attain a wealth of esoteric knowledge.
Submitted by: anonymous Well I am a Christian...and I think Tool is the greatest band in the history of music. I listen to the lyrics, but I don't over analyze them, or try to decipher what they mean... I just listen to the music. Tool's music, apart from the lyrics, is inarguably the best there is.

Submitted by: anonymous These lyrics are indeed about Bill Hicks, that has been known fact for a long time. Elements of religion and things about Jesus and christianity are incorporated, but that isn't the point of the song.
Submitted by: Dman12 Ok guys, I agree with the guy who said that it is left to the interpretation of the listener. And I know it sounds hypocritical from a guy who would obviosly have to go look for the meaning to eulogy to see this argument. But I still have my own interpretations on songs.
Submitted by: anonymous Obviously, there can be more than one interpretation of a given Tool song based on the listener (as with any song in existence), but apparently we're discussing what the actual meaning is and not just what it means to you. What was MAYNARD'S meaning behind the lyrics and THE BAND'S meaning behind the song? Well, that is what this is for, discussion of that. So everyone can quit bitching and saying "you're wrong, he's wrong, shut the fuck up" because obviously it has nothing to do with the song, you're just mad that other people have different interpretations of the band and this song in particular.
Submitted by: tonx Jesus faking his death.
Submitted by: tonx Who is Simon of Syrene? Silly children.
Submitted by: anonymous If you have ever read any interviews with Maynard with them dicussing the topic of his writing. He has stated that he takes little to no part in the lyric writing process. Danny and Adam do most of the writing. So all of you who think that Maynard writes all of these songs and thinks he is a mastermind are wrong. Maynard is a genius with the songs he writes. But Maynard himself has state he takes little to no part in this process especially with the music.
Submitted by: tool9386 ey, lets all argue over who's the bigger Tool fan when it in fact doesn't fucking matter! The interpretations of the songs are up to the listener.
Submitted by: anonymous Exactly all of you just need to stop thinking you have them figured out and know every single fact about the band like you're part of the band or are a close personal friend. None of you are. None of you really have a clue. So stop acting like you do.
