And I stepped outside
And I was like, momma, this air bubble right here, it's gonna make me fly
I hit that court, and when I jumped, I jumped, I swear I got so high
I touched the net, momma...

Macklemore discusses how he bought a nice pair of expensive shoes to impresse his friends and make him cool. He grows up and realizes that he fell into the consumer culture and that the price he paid for his shoes wasn't just $100 dollars, but the cost of his own being. He realizes that shoes are only shoes and that people need to realize that. Like the people who murdered a kid from his school for his shoes. You need to be your own person and not let what you wear be the only thing that represents you.

I believe its all about consumerism. We watch some of our favorite celebrities, they have something and we want it like them. It starts at a young age, that we need to be an exact replica of one of our idols and with such expensive pro gear we will be as good as them. We want to be the best and to do that in our mind we need to have the most expensive.

I think it's about buying things, mostly brands, to impress other people. We buy just to fit in a trend, to seem cool but in the end it's just another shirt, or, like in this case, another pair of shoes.

To me, Its talking about how stupid the prices for shoes are. Like when he said "I think Phil Knight tricked us all". He mmeant that somehow phil knight made so that people bought a hundred dollar pair of basketball shoes, but when you get em, you dont want to crease em so you leavve in the boox

For me personally its a uelrty good perspective. I meet those who rather say what they suppose others desire to hear. Good and well written! I am going to come back to your website undeniably!
