    I see this as somebody hiding their true personality in order to fit in with society.
    For example a sociopath changing their personality in order to appear like the others around them.

    To me this song is about leading a life of deception in order to maintain a certain lifestyle below societal radar. Faking who you are, what your true intentions and beliefs are, and morphing into a different person and personality at any given time. All for the sake of not getting truly found out. Serial killer psychopath. " I change shapes just to hide in this place, but I'm still I'm still an Animal...Nobody knows it but me when I slip yeah i slip I'm still an Animal."

    I love all this song because it shapes its shift to each person.
    While the widely acepted interpretation is of our animalistic desires running at odds with society i also like the idea of infedelity.
    However for me personally this song is about adiction.
    I am an adict who often slips off the rails in plain site with no one ever knowing.
    For me the darkness is the dream. I honestly am happiest in that dark and conflicted state.
    And then i throw away the pills and "pull myself together."
    I suceed in my business. I make money and race to the front of whatever it is I am doing. I become a picture of sucess to the world. And it is boring!!! I am healthy and "happy" and "sane" and it sucks.
    So i hide my true self and "fit in"
    And that is when i am most tied up.
    I am fit for self destruction. But that is too painful for the world to experience. So i tie myself up inside the confines of "society"
    But don't worry about me. Every so often i get the pills and go for it. I fulfill my dream of darkness.
    Then i shape myself back into the "norm"
    I tie myself up.
    I sang this song to myself looking in the mirror years before i ever heard it.

    What this song says to me is that we come into this world as spiritual beings into human animal form. The experience is universal that we all fall from Grace, yet we persevere. It also also speaks to the fact that we are all in this together (hide shapes shapes just to hide in this place but I'm still I'm still an animal. Nobody knows it but me when I slip, but I slip I'm still an animal).

    This song in essence is about self acceptance wat better examples are that then animals that is the one for of species that does not try to modify or change or conceal its nature animals a re pure ( I change shapes just to hide in this place bt I'm still an animal.) Gotta love miike snow
