To me this song is basically about a guy who has been lying to himself to make himself feel better (hence the: But I just hate to say goodbye to all the metaphors and lies that have taken me years to come up with) and is finally snapping out of it. He realizes that he's not attractive as he was seeing himself through his lies and for once in his life just wants to be happy and feel attractive without having to making things up.
