My Chemical Romance: Blood Meaning

Album cover for Blood album cover

Blood Lyrics

Well they encourage your complete cooperation,
Send you roses when they think you need to smile.
I can't control myself because I don't know how,
And they love me for it honestly, I'll be here for a while.

So give them blood, blood, gallons...

I think it is the cancer talking on this song, cuz i cant control itself and when you find it, it has been already in your body for a while, and it is a illness that you need luck to recouver from and it is the most studied illness by doctours and nurses... It all makes sense to me to be the cancer talking. Specially when the album is whole about cancer as well.

Has anyone here read Dracula? Because I can't help but feel that this is all about Renfield, the psychotic patient of Dr.Seward. :/.

I took it to be literally about him about letting as much blood go as possible while thinking of his demons but they won't notice and his inner bullies will still be there to annoy him and get in the way also the roses part is family and friends denying things to attempt to make him smile and 'fix' his depression etc
The doctors and the nurses they adore me so
They are used to him being around due to frequent trips to the hospital and are starting to like him but he doesn't understand why as people who struggle with depression and the addiction to cutting hate themselves so don't understand why people would like them
This is just my opinion though so probably not what the song is actually about

To me, I think it's about self harm, specifically cutting.
    Just think about it.

i think it is about him being in a hospital and the Docs and nurse are Vampires and they are taking his blood and drinking it cause of "Give them all that they can drink and it will never enough" alos as in they keep asking him to give them his blood and then when it says "I gave you blood, blood gallons of the stuff i gave you ALL that you can drink and it has NEVER been enough"-(cause they keep drinking it)and "Well they encourage you"-(basically end up making you doing it in a way)-"I CANT control myself cause i dont know how"-as in(kinda) he doesnt really know how to stop himself-"And they love me for it"-giving them blood-"honestly, i'll be here for a while so give them blood, blood, gallons of the stuff " as in he cant really stop him self cause he likes being loved like that or something but he cant really control it they are like bring him in to the a trap

I think this is about the government in a way. How they're always taking our money somehow, "give them all that they can drink and it will never be enough." It also hints at how the government likes to sugarcoat things and make you believe everything's fine, "send you roses when they think you need to smile." And also that the government really does control us and will make us do what they want us to do, "they encourage your complete cooperation." That's how I see it.

    Look:

    It's NOT about fans
    It's NOT about blood donors
    It's NOT about the army

It's about THE PATIENT. And all of his fucked up thoughts on his hospital deathbed, how his family sends flowers, how he'll never get out, how the nurses hold him down and have him on an IV 24-7.

I think this song is about how fans are so obsessed with the band and they give it all to the fans.

    Or it is about vampires...

it's about somebody who suffers from shell shock.
Imagine it in the Black Parade scenario.
Two brothers go to war and one of them has to watch his brother die while he could do nothing about it.
This event together with all the other horrible things he ha seen on the front create a shell shock effect.

he ends up in a mental institution. The nurses want him to cooperate when they dress him, etc and encourage him to really do so. Often he receives gifts from home such as roses but he doesn't see his family anymore (them being afraid?). He gets (anger?) attacks on some occasions and the nurses will try to hold him down but he sees it a them loving these outbursts. They also tell him he'll stay with them for a while because they don't know a cure for shell shock. Yet they keep telling him they'll find a way to cure him. The nurses talk to him like they do with every patient but he sees it as personal and real love. The 'awful fuck' can refer to the things he has done as a soldier (killing,...)

the whole 'blood' verses refer to the tragic stuff he has seen on the front.
the sound of someone 'singing' in the background is probably from one of the other inhabitants of the mental institution

I think its about the war, and how nobody cares about it, he gave them his life, but it is never enough, His family is sending him roses, but whats that gonna do? He gets captured and he needs to couporate or they will kill him.

I thought it was just a daft little story about a blood bank ran by vampires like in blade 2.

Although the interpretation of pouring their entire souls into their music and it's still not enough makes more sense

Its about the army, 'gurneys' are a stretcher the wounded would be carried on. Its about how you are tied to it and eventually you have no choice.
When i first heard it i thought it was about us fans, and mcr giving as much as they could but im sure its about the army.

'Kind of human wreckage that you love'
How the deaths affect you, all the killing etc.

'They encourage your complete co-oporation' you are controlled. As you are in the army.

I'd say this is "The Patient" telling his friends about the people at the hospital, and how cruel they are.

I think the song is about a soldier. In the military, complete cooperation is necessary and it is very gendered toward "man", but when you're injured, you're allowed to get flowers from family and charity groups who otherwise don't care. The army is also hypocritical in a sense that they also love if you cant control your actions because that means you're less remorseful when you kill. Then he talks about giving blood which is what a soldier or army is always doing but the State can never have enough conquests so the blood spilled will never be enough. Then he talks about all the nurses and people being nice to him and joking with him saying, "We'll need some luck but you'll be just fine." He wonders why they are nice to him because of all the people he's killed. Through his injuries and PTSD, he's the kind of human wreckage that the media will jump on to prove he's a hero. The army also loves this because they can spin the injury as valor, offering great propaganda to join the military.
