Love Vigilantes Lyrics

Oh I've just come from the land of the sun
From a war that must be won in the name of truth
With our soldiers so brave
Your freedom we will save
With our rifles and grenades and some help from God

I want to see my family
My wife and child...

The soldier is a ghost determined to come home and not realizing he's actually dead -- gorgeous, poetic, tragic, artful! (Also ties back to "Vigilante" as part of the title. The law (in this case the laws of nature/war/life and death/whatever was unsuccessful in reuniting the soldier with his love, so his ghost was vigilant to do so).

in the song it says a man has come from the land of the sun (japan) this meaning it took place in ww2. if im not mistaken soldiers from that time did not fly home like what was said in the song; they took a boat. also when the song says, "and with tear her eyes were sore" you can infer she has been crying for a long time, if she was crying upon seeing her 'beleive to be dead' husban her eyes wouldnt be sore. so i believe that the soldier has come home to realize he has died in the war.

The song is about a soldier who is coming home from the pacific theater in world war 2. This is clear because the first line says just come from the land of the sun. Japans flag has a red sun on it known as the rising sun. The song is telling the story of a soldier who was mistakenly reported to have been killed in battle. A telegram was sent to a family member if a soldier was believed to be killed in the line of duty. Sometimes the letter or telegram would be sent home and the soldier would be found later washed up on a beach miles away from where a battle had taken place. But it would be to late to intercept the telegram or letter sent to the family.
