Rihanna: Man Down Meaning
Man Down Lyrics
I know it wasn't right
I can't even sleep at night
Can't get it off my mind
I need to get out of sight
Before I end up behind bars
What started out as a simple altercation
Turned into a real sticky...

to whom it may concern....
yes i believe the video is representing rape
RAPE is never a woman's fault for the "clothes" she is wearing. if a woman wants to wear a nun's habit or a thong bikini it does NOT entitle anyone to her body.... i did not know that certain clothes meant other people had a right to rape and violate women
rape is about aggression and power...our current cultural conception about sex fuels the demented perception that rape is an action that a woman invites upon herself.
if i want to run around ass naked, guess what i still own my body and no one has a right to violate it any manner (yea i might get some crazy looks and be called trashy, but still to force sex is beyond logical rationale) -

Excuse me? She's an attention hogging slut? No.
This song has been getting a lot of negative press. Things like, 'videos like this should never be made' and 'if Chris Brown wouldn't be able to get away with this, then neither should she.'
Did those people bother to look at the lyrics?
Because if they did, they would know that throughout the song, she admits that she shot someone, but also that she did it out of anger, or before she realized what she was doing, and then seriously regrets it. And the music video shows that she didn't just shoot a man for no reason. No points for the parents this time. -

The song is about a Guy who trusted a woman he shouldn't have. She took a exposing pic of him and put it on a fake page of his account . The photo went viral therefore the Guy is shot otherwise dead, she shot a man down.

Everyone. Listen(well, in your case, read). A woman was raped and killed her rapist. She truly regrets it. But to everyone who says it was her fault, think again. It's HER body. No matter how she flaunts it(and believe me, the dress was fine) no one has any right to abuse it in any way. Long red hair? Well, I think it's kawaii. We don't need shave our heads and wear long-sleeved turtlenecks with slacks. Unless we want. I mean, that doesn't lower your chances of being raped. Sorry for going "in-depth", but the vid is pretty straightforward.

I have never seen the video to this song before.
Just by listening to it I would for sure think this video is about a girl breaking a mans heart.
I think that R is telling everyone - shes trying to help her self because she doesn't know what to do.
I think she's trying to get over this huge production that maybe didn't go on in literally a million people's eyes but quite a few (enough to make her feel surrounded , possibly his whole family / social life and she may now be lettin her family / social life know - grand central station- )
Love this song and she just had a massive break up and it's her fault.
Obviously it's the right thing for her to do is move on now and she ha to express these feelings.
Poor girl just broke a heart and had hers broken but in different / the same ways.
Beautiful story of healing. -

This song wasnt actually written by her so you can shove your illumanati shit up your ass....its an appropriation of the song 'i shot the sheriff' i just think its a cheeky song which finally turns the table on male dominance!

She is angry that she couldn't do anything about the man tha raped her.. sh first tried to be friends with him but he obvi didn't want just friendship.. he wanted more and when she pushed him away he couldn't help that she rejected him. So he he wanted her to know that he was getting what he wanted whether she wanted or not..

You got to admit... this song is pretty catchy
But im on both sides Because in the song she was raped and didnt want the rapist to move on and rape another victim.
But on the other hand she killed a human being which is wrong and is faced with the sad consequenses of guilt.
But whatever your opinion is
Just enjoy the song (: -

The song and video is amazing!! Music is supposed to take us on a journey. Not all aspects of our lives are happy and light hearted. This song is extremely touching and mashy can relate to, either by actually taking revenge on someone that hurt them or wanted. Hopefully the song will take them on a healing journey!

there's a lot of people who dress a little bit too revealing and flirt with everyone but do they all get raped?
one of the point in the video is to show that she's just a normal girl doing normal things and thinking that nothing bad would happen like most rape victims. -

I thought the song interped her making chris brown life and fame go down for her upliftment in the industry, just because he is a man doesnt mean he isnt competition.... Besides she seems like a girl that would insinuate a fight to get her rocks off....finally publically blowing them up, so much for liking whips and chains.... considering the song she made; but oh no spear the left hook....i love her music indeed..but this is just an opinion. Only she knows what it means, im sure it rattles her brain when she hears the song

First of all no one has the right to say to women who were raped that it was there fault because it wasnt and that you cant always stop it and in the song man down i thinks its talking about how you can lose your life like it might be normal until you get raped and in just a matter of seconds you dont feel safe and you want to feel safe so thats why she shot him so it wont happen again....

The song to me is about rejection and it's pain. when someone says no to you it feels like your the victim in a murder the pain is that much and in this song rihanna is explaining the sometimes the person who shoots the "man down" realises what they have just done and usually done for a petty reason. the fact that she didn't just go for the straight interpretation is a good way for people to get to think.the Chris brown thing is past forgive and forget and if rihanna is in anyway a Christian she wouldn't be making petty revenge songs about it.

Guy rapes her, she gets angry, kills him, then regrets it. Simple as that.

I know people may think this is totally wrong but I believe this song is representing her selling her soul to the devil and she is now regretting it. Due to Jay Z, she is the reason why she did that. That's why she apologized to her mom. All of this illuminati stuff is really taking over her and she needs to sit down and realize who is really the lead person of her success and it is for sure def not the devil. But I still like her as an artist and I really wish her the best. Love you Ri Ri.
