This song is about two people who have a strictly physical relationship:
"Chest to chest
Nose to nose
Palm to palm"
These lines and a few other imply that Rihanna and the guy often sleep together.
The line, "We were always just that close," in my opinion, means that the two of them were never really closer than this physical relationship. In other words, they were physically close, but not emotionally close.
Obviously, though, she has legitimate emotional feelings for him, but she doesn't know how to express it because she doesn't "want to seem so weak," and she feels like there is a huge distance between them because although they are on the same page physically, they are "ten-thousand miles apart" emotionally.
At the end of the song, she says that "Maybe I've been California dreaming" because she was holding on to hope that he may love her back, but deep down she realizes that he doesn't love her in the same way that she loves him. -

There has been a change now they cannot communicate like they once did leaving her helpless and unable to know where they stand. She is left reminiscing about the 'good times' as she wishes for him to change back to the man she loved. And as she is about to give up he turns into the man she loved and she is left clinging onto him. She is confused because she does not know if the man she has loved is there anymore? If they'll ever be the same? if he still loved her or has moved on? His changes and her insecurities define this song.

#3 top rated interpretation:California King Bed is about her love for a guy who she she has physical relationship with (sexual), but in my opinion she loved that man because (Chest to chest, Nose to nose, Palm to palm) shows that they were that close. Somehow things has changed and she suddenly wish (California wishing) = imagine it... wishing star she wants to make a wish and win his heart and have the old him back. Fighting for her love, she stopped after some things he's done and she felt like giving up. Communications wasn't like before, helpless romance he is (he's changing) and more distance she felt. She reminisce the good times that they've had and want the old him back. Her feelings clinging onto him, she feels confused and doesn't know where their relationship stands.

For me this song is about 2 people connected at heart but with a long distance between them. It seems impossible that she can get over him, no matter how hard she tries. She seems to be waiting which meant the guy in the room is not even the one she is referring to. She is referring to the King of her heart, the one for whom she has made only one wish and that is to be with him forever. But it seems she has to wait. It seems there is something keeping them apart. I hope it ends soon.

The literal meaning of this song is just the couple has a relationship but then the girl want's to talk to the boy that he really loves her. The couple in the past are so close too each other but then after they run away to each other. The girl every night wish that they were too close too each other and she want to be the only girl in the heart of the boy. The couple is having a break up because the boy is not really love her that she expect too. The girl want's too reach out everything just for the boy and she know that if she reach out her finger she will get hurt.

hey yall, this song is about a girl who bought a bed in california, she thought it was double but it was king size, and when she says 'just when i felt like giving up on us' she thought she should donate the bed, but as soon as she slept in it one more night, 'you turned aroud and gave me one last touch' she fell back in love:D.. this reminds me of my relationship with my bf recently, he likes another girl and i like him so i dont kow if to dump him or not!!!! anyways, this song inspired me alot as i realised i slept in my bed alot and i dont rally need him, i need the bed. i think shes still in luv with william after their song 'photographs' it obviously means something to them?? very inspring, thanks Rihanna xxx

I think this song is about the awakening of a relationship death or realization from Rihanna. "When I reach out my fingers
It seems more than distance between us..." She's acknowledging that it is more then just physical distance, there not emotionally close as they used to be. The use of the word california in the last line of the chorus, "I've been california wishing on these stars for your heart for me,My california king" i think is meant to be a metaphor for hollywood. Kind of like someone underground trying to make it mainstream, She's been wishing, and has all these illusions, but he's her 'california king' like the celebritys we have crushes on but we know its never going to happen. It's the idea or reality vs. fanstasy/expectations. -

I feel that the song is about two people that have/ had something together but the connection isnt showing the right results that should come. she is hurt because she is physically close to him but emotionally they have a long wway to go. near the end when she is making a decision to end her pain and their relationship he makes a decision to "show his affections"(she cries because she doesnt know if its true). but she still feels distant from him.

The meaning of this song is you just want one more day with the love of your life but he's gone and you'd give anything for him to come back but she also means I'm strong on my own. I'll have my days when I'm down and lonely and miss you but then shell realize it was the right idea xx.

I think that she bought a bed far 2 big for her bedroom and is soppy and wants to cuddle in but because she bought a california king bed its far 2 large she cant reach him for cuddles in the night so regretting gettin a king bed and wishes she got a single bed instead

For me, this song is about a girl singing about a man she's been having multiple one-night stands with. And she came to a point that she fell for the man and she doesnt know where to stand in their relationship because obviously the man doesnt love him. I know because this happened to me. Expectations hurt. Just like in the song, I didnt have the courage to ask him what he really feels for me, if he love me or just want me for pleasure.
