#1 top rated interpretation:My interpratation of the song and the video is that he was going to drug and rape the girl he folowed her into a undergrownd area and at this point she is looking at the ground holding a phone receiver and starts using demon powers to injure the pedo who passes out an goes into a dream state where he sees dolls that may reprasent the girls he has raped then he is woken up by the powers of the girl who is now using a large shadow demon of sorts she then contiues to kill him the vid ends with her marking of a talley on a wall that conains 75 talleys in all this could mean eather she has killed 75 men or has been doing this for 75 years hence the name (first of the year).

I seen this video back when it came out. My older brother and I have been talking about the meaning of this song every time we hear it. This is our thoughts.
What if a demon came to this world meaning to destroy it because there was no hope in humanity. When he came to earth, a little girl befriended him (because he comes as a girl) they became the best of friends and he decides not to destroy the world because he saw humanity in his best friend.
Then his friend was raped in killed by a pedophile. So in his anger, he hunts and kills pedophiles... always searching for the man that killed his best friend. And the tally marks is how many she has killed.
This was my brothers idea. I don't know if he looked up the meaning but it's pretty cool. -
Videos rarely portray what a song is actually"about". From the lyrics of the song, "If I could go back,...the night...Somebody call 911", it seems to me the song was about someone being witness to someone overdosing and/or dying. Maybe at a party or rave and not acting on it, probably because of being on drugs. Maybe the occurrence happened on the first of the year. The song (and subsequent video) emotes giving control over something that us practically impossible for very, very sensitive subjects.

I think the true meaning of the music/music video is about a pedo trying to molest or kill the little girl. I was doing research on the song and I may be wrong but if you listen closely to the highpitch voice it sounds as if it is shouting "baby don't cry" and so on so forth. In addition, the more deep voice would be the rapist talking back to the girl and whenever the beat drops he might have striked the little girl. But in the video the pedo tries to possibly molest her but her gaurdian reaper comes and helps defeat the pedo. The 75th tally may represent the latest kill the girl and reaper have made. Or some may say that since all the tallies except the 75th one look different since the song is named "First Of The Year" it may be the little girls first kill. I hope this somewhat of an explanation helps :)

So I originally thought that he was a demon hunter trying to save the girl. The girl fights back and he loses the battle. The dolls, I thought, were supposed to represent all the girls he tried to save but couldn't.i thought the tally marks mean either: all the people she has killed or how many (days, months, years) she has been possessed.

I have always thought she was not a demon but a alien or creature sent from something toi kill all the pedos out there. I thought that the 75 tally marks are how many pedos she has defeated. I think the dolls are the girls that are either other demons that arte watching him or girls he killed. But This is my interpretation. Hope this helps. :)

At the beginning,the pedo was possibly going to put the girl to sleep with the green stuff he put in a napkin. When he walked up to her, and she said, "Call 9.1.1 Now!" It signaled the demon thing to posses her, or just to help get the pedo away from the secret that the demon thing might be her parents or something. When he was in the dream and saw the dolls, that was how they killed the people or pedos that came in or knew something was up. When he had that dream and woke up and said, "Call 9.1.1 Now!" It was an actual call for help. The demons powers pushed the girl to kill the man since he probably knew the secret and was going to tell the whole world. And at the end, she wrote a tally mark, what it seems to me, in his blood. There were 75 marks on there, so that could mean 75 people or pedos that are dead because they saw what happened.

The guys dream (the doll dream) might be all the girls he has killed or raped. Or, in the beginning, it shows a dolls hand in the girls pocket, so the dolls in the dream might be all the dolls he took from the girls he has killed.

I think that the man is a pedo and I'm not sure what the green liquid is in the bottle but it might be chloroform to drug the girl and rape her. So the girl is a demon and she uses her powers to knock the pedo into a dream in which the dolls symbolize all the girls he's raped. A strange creature (most likely a reaper) pulls him out and they eventually kill him with their combined demon powers. She marks a 75th tally on the wall but her tally looks different than the others. Like the reaper had made them. This relates to the title (first of the year) as the girl's first kill.

It's an amazing song, the viseo, well, that could have been better, in my own opinion, it was well made because of some of the effects in it and it's what you expect a dubstep video to be, unique.
But I have one thing agaisnt it, it's too close to some realities in society, where a pedophile goes into some room blocking the only way out, and we know his objective, no need for me to explain, hopefully.
Anyways, the only negative part for this song/video is the video, and only parts of it. -
Backwards the song states "for you I give and give away my unhappiness in color" and a coincidental "ah no no no Ahhhh!" which is completely irrelevant. But it is an earlier song by Sonny Moore called Equinox. The "for you I give and give away my unhappiness in color" is saying that you can always find goodness when you are sad, lonely, afraid, hurt, or angry. There should never be a reason to be unhappy.

honestly the 75 tally marks could've meant how many times THAT specific guy has lurked and watched the little girl, and that last tally could've been the "bust" saying well here. I'm not an easy kid nap, take a look inside. look at what you've done, look at who you're hurting, and forcing him to take a look at himself, though he can't escape which is how the tables have turned and he's now screaming for 911.
