Tom's Diner Lyrics

I am sitting
In the morning
At the diner
On the corner

I am waiting
At the counter

I don't think this song means anything at all. It's kind of like a haiku ... just a snapshot of what it's like to sit in a cafe and watch life (and other people) go by ... but I still love it!

I think this song is a type of an extended metaphor for life, you see so much going on around you but you have no idea what is really going on. The part where she's talking about the woman outside and she says "does she see me" and decides that she doesn't because she sees her own reflection, I think that shows how it feels to be an outsider in a situation. Sometimes we are curious about the lives of others, but they're so involved with themselves they couldn't care less about what's going on with you.
