The song is about the girl, who has a boyfriend, when she first saw this guy standing there. She regrets not saying anything to him. Now she's ruined because her bar is now set high because of him. Now she's "stuck" with the subpar when she could have had the real thing.

This song is about a girl who runs into a previous love and everything in her life turns around again. Despite the fact that she currently has a boyfriend he suddenly means nothing compared to her past love. "I was with my boyfriend,
    my new boyfriend,
he was as sweet as he could be
One look at you and I was through my heart switched up on me." She regrets letting him go before and realizes that him coming back is going to complicate her life. "The meanest thing you ever did is come around
And now I'm ruined." She knows that nothing will be the same as her true love and realizes that she only seems to find imitations when she only wishes for the real thing.
