This song is without a doubt about Maynard's mother, and her ascension into the heaven she believes in and he feels she deserves to go to. "Judith Marie... unconditional warmth."

This song is without a doubt dedicated to Maynard's mother I know this because it is without a doubt dedicated to my own son who passed away at 15 months old- it is the only written word, song, or poem that has ever been able to capture my own thoughts through words and feelings through music. and now that I find myself struggling with the concept of faith I find that Maynard was able to hit the nail on the head with the music and lyrics to lateralus- faith...i find myself listening to these songs over and over to replenish my strength and develop my faith. Tool's music is quickly becoming the therapy I need to help me survive without my baby, my son.

This song is about my life. How my brother chooses to fall in with society and culture while I dabble in shamanism. My mother, who I was ripped from at an early age was the one who always believed I would do great. I will take her light that has been dim for a long time and give it to the world. In which people will understand we can live in a world without history. Its all up to me.

I hope someone gets to read this.
This is about his mother.her middle name is marie.
His mother, the singers mother, had a stroke and
Became paralized on the leftside leaving her wheelchair bound. It had been 27years from the day she wAs in a wheelchair to the day she died. That is appeoximetly 10,000days. This song is obvioulsy about her and how she stood strong and finally went home to heaven.
The lead singer is a vereerrrrrrrrrry talented song writer and I admire him for being so meaningful.
This is a tragic song for a tragic ocassion. But if is cool how hecan take a situation and turn it into something so beautiful( this song and part1and also the title of the album)

You know, I'm a giant Tool fan. I have loved the shit out of Tool since they ever released their first album, I grew up as a teenager and now a young adult listening to their music and A Perfect Circle among other things. I may not be the biggest fan ever, because I had no idea Judith Marie was his mother. I loved the shit out of this song for years and I always knew from listening to it that she was a real person, because the emotion contained within the song just bleeds reality. But now after reading what it is truly about, I'm glad to confirm that this truly an amazing song, both parts of it. As most of you said, regardless of it's authors meaning, it means something different to everyone, and I think the complexity and the flexibility of the lyrical interpretations lend just as much as the amazing music to making it a truly wonderful song.

The "chosen" the "faithful" the "people of god".
Tool is saying: religion is not scapegoat, or excuse. The worthy will go to heaven. Just because you believe doesn't mean you are safe from the fire.
