I think this song is about religion. Now I don't think it's dissing on religion, as Maynard is a Christian. I think it is talking about people who follow a certain religion just because others do. "Deaf and blind and born to follow." I also think that this talks about people who totally rely on religion and don't rely on themselves at all. "Jesus Christ why don't you come save my life now?" Just some of my opinions.
