He is talking about Ireland. Though, he goes across the sea, he always comes back to his homeland, queen of the slipstream, sitting in the waters off of Europe.....where the poetic champions compose....Yeats, Carrol, Thomas.....

As we move through life, as a car travels round the track, we have a permanent slipstream that follows us, that we cannot shake off , containing all we have done, all the people we have known, all our memories.
This lady is the most important memory - the queen of the slipstream

The woman he is singing about moves through life without constraint, perhaps as in riding in the slipstream, and it is her natural path through life

Queen Of The Slipstream is a Song about Soulmates. He has gone away to Heaven and she has tried to find him, but is still waiting for him. He will return to her when it is her time for her to join him in Eternity. These 2 souls have been together in past lives.

My take on it, after listening to it hundred times is that he had a love who came to be with him from another country, and he was so in love with her, that when time came for him to travel because of his career, he definitely wanted her to know he'd be back to her.ni think it's totally romantic, a love ballad.

He is singing to the love of many past lives and the way that he loves her is so immense he can’t hold on to her. She passes him so fast and then she’s gone and he’s speechless.

"Queen of the SLIPSTREAM" means this woman is so wonderful that she is like the air behind a Race car that pulls another or the air under an airplane wing that creates lift.
