You Should Have Killed Me When You Had the Chance Lyrics

So I say goodbye to a town that has ears and eyes
I can hear you whispering as I walk by
Familiar faces smiling back at me and I knew
This would make them change

The only thing that's going to bother me
Is that you'll all call yourselves...

(Never thought I'd do one of these, but these descriptions don't seem that good to me, so I figured I might give it a try, and I'm sorry if it's not all that good either)

Although this song involves at least the mention of murder, to me it actually seems to be more about love, you just have to look at it really hard, and not take it at purely face value. The speaker is in a relationship with a girl he loves, but everyone around him continually speaks down upon their relationship, bringing in lies and fables supposedly from her past and saying that they shouldn't be together, that it just shouldn't work out. However, he still loves her and he hates how everyone constantly criticizes her and their relationship together. This is displayed in the first verse and chorus, it mentions the rumors and then how they all still attempt to claim they only want to help him and his future, but then it shows that he still wants to be with his love. When the second verse rolls around, it's a little more direct, speaking of the rumors spread by those "friends" that say she's a bad person, but he won't believe it, they can't be true and anyone that says differently can go to hell. The chorus once again strengthens his feelings that he loves this girl. So comes the next verse with the whole killing thing, which I take as what he wishes to do with those who still, after he continually warns them and professes his love of this girl. Then the verse that follows shows that, at least so far, he is merely contemplating it, but hasn't followed through yet.

    Okay guys, in general if you're not looking for a deeper meaning, it's about a guy who's girlfriend cheated on him, and before this they get into a really bad arguement, almost to the point of hitting each other, and so begans the song;

    [lyris breakdown]

So I say goodbye to a town that has ears and eyes
I can hear you whispering as I walk by
Familiar faces smiling back at me and I knew
    This would make them change

(This part is about him, and how he's going to leave because all this time his friends and people around him knew she was cheating on him, but never said anything.)

The only thing that's going to bother me
Is that you'll all call yourselves my friends

(Reference to the top breakdown, where all these people are saying that they're going to miss him, and feel sorry for him, they supposedly call themselves his friends but lied to his face.)

Why can't you look me in the eye one last time?

(He can see that they feel ashamed, but still won't tell him what they knew.)

The writings on the wall, you've read that I'll be gone, but if you call my name
Just know that I'll come running, for one more night to spare with you
This is where I'm meant to be, please don't leave me...

(This section is how he left the message that he's gone, and that he's "killed" his ex girlfriend, {it's kind of a "prequel" before the last verse} but still wouldn't mind an other night to spare with her, and when he's like "please don't leave me," it's sort of a sarcastic line to her.)

I've read these stories a thousand times, and Ill rewrite them all
Youre meddling in an anger you cant control
She means the world to me, so hold your serpent tongue
Is a whores lies worth dying for? I'll just take my time

(The first line is about how he's read all these stories about husbands killing their cheating girlfriend, and how he'll be an other story in the verse "I'll rewrite them all." & The rest of the verse is when he's debating on whether he should kill himself and die, in thee verse: "Is a whore's lies worth dying for?...I'll just take my time." the last sentence is him deciding he'll just die whenever he's meant to.)

I walked into your house this morning
I brought the gun from our end table
Your blood was strewn across the walls
They'll find you on your bathroom floor when I'm done
But should I write it all off?

(This is the hight point of the song, when he recalls walking into his cheating girlfriend's house, bringing the gun from their end table, and obviously shooting her, and when he's talking about "writing it all off," he means if he should clean up his fingerprints or just leave the evidence.)

You should have killed me when you had the chance...
(The last line is about him, telling his girlfriend that she should have killed him when she had the chance in the arguement earlier.)

    Hope that helped!(:

I think the girl cheated on him and he found out so he went to the guys house and killed him and got caught...so when he says..."so I say goodbye to a town that has ears and eyes" its referring to him going to prison...

I think the song is about a guy who is dating a girl and all of his friends talk shit about her. She is depressed and after she hears that they talk about her she starts considering suicide. Making him very angry, saying how can you call yourselves my friends. And because the shit talking about her doesnt change. He goes and kills one of his friends. Then states "you should've killed me when you had the chance" so I didnt hurt you or any of my other "friends"

I think it's about a guy who is dating a girl, and she cheats on him with his friends, so he is angry at his friends. However, they realize she isn't worth it and eventually he kills her for tearing his friends apart.

I think its about friends acting as friends but reality they are just backstabber's and at the end explains " I walked into your house this morning,i brought the gun from our end table, your blood was strewn across the walls, they'll find you on your bathroom floor when I'm done" showing he actually took action.

It's about everyone telling the "singer" bad things about his girl, and as trying to figure out fact from fiction he beings to loose reality.

I believe it's about Jeremy talking about his friends being back stabbers and talking about him behind his back, and eventually he gets fed up with it and decides to 'kill' one friend due to the thought of it. hence why he is chanting ''You Should Have Killed Me, When You Had The Chance'' at the end of the song..

I think the song is about a guy and hes like depressed and he thinks that his friends arent helping and that theyre just talking about him. so he deciedes to kill his friend but then he starts to feel regret and is thinking about not doing it, but by the end of the song he decides to do it when says "you shloud've killed me when you had the chance".
