   To me its about him confessing he has a past and that he's changed( lived all that life he taken for granted) so he begging her to leave it behind them. Because she doesn't do drugs or drinks. And so he wants to live another life. (You aka hers) she still loves him but he is depressed because of his past( lying. Turning a blind eye and electing hell) and so he says forgive my love I stand here all alone and can see the bottom. He regrets doing what he did drugs drinking.

   pretty much someone who has given up on even trying to better themselves because they feel hopeless and they are telling their friend/lover/family to move on and better themselves. to not waste time with someone who will only drag them down. thats what I see in it. a beautiful and emotional song

   HE is telling his girlfriend or wife that his hand is broken and he dose not know how long its been broken so he takes these medicine or drugs and gets high. so one day his girl friend or wife saw him take the medicine or drug and he tells her to forget about all the medicine and drugs to be happy because he wants to commit suicide .He tells her that he has been lying to himself but he is asking himself why is he blind . so after he dies he tells her the only way out is if she joins him . he tells her to forgive him because he stands alone and he can see hell form where he is standing .

   to me this song is about a man who is lying to the person he loves and he cant stop himself so he is prettymuch telling her to leave him behind in his giant rut of failure he calls life or his "elected hell"
