Does Anybody Hear Her Lyrics

She is running

A hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction

She is trying

But the canyon's ever widening

In the depths of her cold heart

So she sets out on another misadventure just to find

She's another two years older

And...

Referring "He is running a hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction" from "She is running a hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction", I got that God is running after her. To help her go in the right direction.

This song is about how she is headed down the wrong path of life and how she tries to turn around but keeps failing and that makes her heart bitter,it says "she sets out on another misadventure just to find, she's another two years older and she's three more steps behind" which might mean that she tries again but she realizes that she's even further behind and it's been two years time lapse. The next verse says that "she is yearning for shelter and affection that she never found at home, she is searching for a hero to ride in, to ride in and save the day,and in walks her prince charming and he knows just what to say, momentary lapse of reason and she gives herself away", this means that she is searching for acceptance and a stable situation that she never experienced while living at home, she feels lonely and wants affection from a guy specifically. One comes in to her life and he tells her things that makes her feel attractive or maybe things that make her feel important and wanted, and so she decides to give herself away to him because she is blind to why he is telling her those things. The next phrase states "can anybody hear her? can anybody see? or does anybody even know she's going down today, under the shadow of our steeple with all the lost and lonely people, searching for the hope that's tucked away in you and me." this means that we as people are blind at times and it causes us not to notice that there are other people that we pass by everyday that are in need of a new found hope to survive on. "under the shadow of our steeple with all the lost and lonely people" this means that she is lost to society, she is categorized with the lost and lonely people of our society that are looking for the hope that's tucked away in you and me. Everybody has the ability to be compassionate and caring to people, but some of us choose not to. The last part says" if judgment looms under every steeple, with lofty glances from lofty people, can't see past her scarlet letter, and we've never even met her." In our society judgement is passed around as easily as we inhale and exhale a breath, a glance, even a quick one, can affect a person immensely, people judge and look at each other with destaste just by looking at them for a quick second. It says "can't see past her scarlet letter, and we've never even met her" that can mean that since in the beginning of the song she gave herself away easily, the phrase scarlet letter could mean that it's a sign that she's immoral, so people judge her even though they have never even met her. The final sentence says, "He is running a hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction" this means that another person is going in the wrong direction and is in search of the hope that's tucked away in you and me. So this meaning summarized is that we as a society should be more openminded, and helpful, because there are always people that need help and you could be the person that God designated to help them and if you're not openminded then they might not get the help that they need.

It's a song about how lost broken people are at times not accepted by the church. It's sad that so many people here can't see that or just scan over the references in the song to this.Jesus came for the lost and hurting which is something that seems forgotten today.

This song came out when I was in the depths of my methamphetamine use. I was married to a successful husband with 3 incredible boys! My mother, suddenly without warning, passed away. I fell into addiction & my world came crumbing down. I was running 100 miles an hour in the wrong direction! In walked my prince charming, (satin himself) I had an affair. I was tired. I am also Catholic. So I knew all to well about the judgmental, haute people. Can anybody hear her? Does anybody know she's going down today? I was arrested...it saved my life and my marriage! God is GOOD!! ❤️ Brighteyes

I believe this is about a girl who suffers from borderline personality disorder. "Going a 100 miles per hour in the wrong direction" is a reference to her mood swings and her "splitting".
her "cold heart" is a reference to her impaired empathy. "under the shadow of our steeple with the lost and lonely people" Shows that she is a lonely person. "her scarlet letter" refers to her self harm.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

My interpretation to this wonderfully amazing song is a depressed girl on the road to self destruction, who looks for any way off of that path. It's taken her a very long time to get off of this path, and it's a very long, hard journey. "It's two years later, and she's three steps behind" shows me that she was trying, and trying hard to get off of that path.

I think this song talks about a girl who feels like she can't find exception anywhere. She has made a few mistakes in her life and people judge her because of it. The song tells us to look past the mistakes that others have made and to get to know them as the people they are.

My interpretation from the first line to the last

"SHE is running a hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction"

to "HE is running a hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction"

is to note that there is yet another person going down. And there will always be someone out there who is in need of our help

It tells a story about a girl who is trying to run away from God and looks for fulfillment in everything and everyone around her because when she tried to look for fulfillment in the church, the "lofty" people gave her "lofty" glances. At the end of the song the moral of the story is that we shouldn't be quick to judge people in the church based on their circumstances or lifestyle, we should reach out and help them get to where they should be spiritually.
