... and NO EGGS!
What Maynard is implying is that Satan has no balls. It really is quite genius that someone who is considered (by those who don't think) to be evil or a satanist or anti-christian to write this. It just proves that when it comes to keenan, you will never know.
But then again do any of us know anything? Read the short story "Test," by Theodore L. Thomas. It can be found in the anthology "The Best Horror Stories From The Magazine Of Fantasy And Science Fiction."

Umm...why would satan having no balls have anything to do with a cooking recipe??

It's just a simple recipe, but when read in German every thinks "Die Eier Von Satan" is Nazis talkig about satan or screaming about jews or something sadistic, but the funny thing is... it's just a recipe.

The song is about Hitler and Nazi Germany

The lyrics are about making hash cookies, but you can't make cookies with eggs
the hash cookies are Germany and the eggs are the jews.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that eier means "eggs", but can also mean "balls," like the spanish word "juevos".

On second thought, I'm not sure of this interpretation, but I think there is more to the lyric "Und keine eier."

I like your interpretation, it's one that I've never heard.

To those that attacked me based on my earlier post: Come up with your own interpretation of why he says "and no eggs" so many times. Why doesn't he say "And no zucchini," or "And no tartar sauce?" Neither of those are ingredients in this recipe either.

It's definitely a recipe for some kind of hash cookies. I spotted the name on a menu in a hash bar in Amsterdam referring to the shape and the feeling you have being stoned and feeling sick. Eier (eggs) is a German expression for balls. So its a pun. Hash cookies in general are baked without eggs.

If there is a deeper meaning behind these lyrics, I don't get it.

From FAQ @ Toolshed.down.net ...
"Die Eier Von Satan" ... man, I don't speak German!
The title means "The Eggs of Satan" (or "The Balls of Satan" = "Satan's Balls").
G53. Great, but what does the rest of "Die Eier Von Satan" mean?
The secret is out now that everyone has translated it: it's a recipe for ... a certain kind of cookie. With no eggs. Complete lyrics are posted to toolshed.down.net's lyrics section.

I think that "satan's balls" is another name for the recipe.

You know I don't know jack about German, but this song is so awesome and from what my friend who does know German said...it is about a cookie recipe. It might be deeper then I see it but I'm just not getting it.

Look...guys. Can't someone make a joke without someone over-interpreting it? Die Eier von Satin is about Hash Cookies. The reason they 're referred to as eggs is because they're somewhat spheroid, or shaped like an egg. The humor is derived from the fact that even though they are called "The eggs of Satan" they have no eggs in them. Additional humor is derived from the fact that most of Tool's audience don't know German. Therefore, due to the tone of voice and the fact that it's in German, it sounds kind of "Nazi", so to speak. Images like these are obviously conjured up from seeing footage of Hitler speeches, etc. When one finds out the lyrics are about making cookies "with drugs in them, hence the Satan reference", the joke comes to fruition.

It's as simple as that. I thought it was rather funny. Gee, what is this crazy German lyric about....oh...Cookies! Who woulda thunk!

Additional thoughts:

1. The fact that speculation about the hidden meanings of a cooking recipe would be debated on sites such as this can be seen as an additional facet of humor for this lyric.

2. There could be some connection between Satan and Hitler...who knows? This one should have been obvious, but I don't necessarily imply that this is the case.

3. It could be an inside joke on those who don't know or care to try to learn German.

4. Although this song may have hidden meanings intended by the author of which I don't fully comprehend, the entertainment value based on humor alone is enough to gain my respect for the author.

Entertainment, indeed. It is very funny when you find out what the lyrics mean, because it's definately not what you thought of when you first heard it.

What does one think when one says Hitler? I think of a killer of millions of innocent men, or a brutal murder of a hundred thousand too many women and children.
Satan like.
In this song the person who is telling of this "recipe" of satan's balls is talking to a crowd and is explaining this recipe of his in great determination, and the crowd is cheering in support.
How did Hitler die?
Suicide.
Not much balls for someone that brutal huh?
No balls...
No balls...
NO BALLS...

I think its a bit weird always linking german to Nazi. can't the lyrics just be german without any reference to the nazi's.
If you look at the FAQ of Tool it says this
"German" does not equal "Nazi."

You're right, it doesn't have to mean Nazi, but that is the reason why it is in German, to reflect something evil. I believe that this song is to make you ask yourself: if you were going to make a recipe for a new you, would you leave out the seeds of evil (eggs of satan)?

I don't think this song is really about satan...I think Maynard creates a metaphor being satan the bad guys or those who wanna be bad guys...I think it has a lot to do with "Hooker with a penis", it's a sequence. They smoke hash, they do all the bad stuff, but in the end they don't have guts...

At first glance this song sounds evil and sinister, but once the lyrics are translated it turns out to be about a cookie or cake. I think this is kind of a test to see how deep into this song we will look. Some people might not care to translate the lyrics and dismiss Tool as satanists, whereas others can translate them and see that this is a clever joke and that the lyrics involving satan are just a red herring.
