This song is about the hateful unjust criticism that has always been in the way, ("mindless clutter in my path")that Scott Stapp and Creed have had to endure throughout their careers.
He is singing about how he has been made to feel like he is being targeted and shot at from spineless creatures that hide behind cover ("at least look at me when you shoot a bullet through my head") and who do not have any respect for the music he is truthfully writing and putting his soul into.
These spineless creatures are the press, who have gone out of their way to try and tear stapp apart despite the fact that he and Mark were truly talented songwriters who loved to write from their hearts. "I know I have something free"
The criticism was so scathing that it made him question whether is was even worth it:
"please, help me find a place, somewhere far away, yes I'll go and you'll never see me again".
Critics are basically lowlives I agree.
