Delerium: Duende Meaning
Duende Lyrics
hear me)
Tearing bruising fall (Your hands can't hear me)
Thirsting raging blind (Your eyes can't hear me)
Racing against time (Your arms can't hear me)
Like an angel...

Duende is the Spanish name for an incubus. The incubus was a supernatural demon or goblin who visited women in their sleep in order to seduce them or rape them. The name is derived from Latin and roughly translates to "I lie on top", a reference to the crushing weight the demon was supposed to exert upon the chest of the victim. Modern definition of an "incubus attack" is described as a mixture of night terrors often accompanied by temporary paralysis, pressure on the chest, and sometimes hallucinations caused by being in a half-state of sleep. In Medieval times there is many references to "Demon Lovers" that were said to be the familiars of witches. I believe this song is about rape.
