Beatles - Let It Be Song MeaningsLyrics:When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be. And in my hour of darkness she is standi... (See the rest of these lyrics) Submitted by: anonymous Added: 2005-05-21 21:55:27   Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() This was about a dream Paul McCartney had about his dead mother. Mother Mary was Mary McCartney
Submitted by: username In my opinion, this song could be perceived as someone holding onto their faith (Mother Mary was the mother of Christ) despite the bad things, and that if you don't forsake your faith, there will be an answer as long as you let it be and dont question it. Kinda makes you wonder what you're doin' on a lyrics interpretation site doesn't it?
Submitted by: F.T.R. No, and No. This song was written by Paul McCartney, toward his father. When Paul was young, his mother MARY McCartney died. When Paul would argue and fight with his brother his mother would say 'Let it Be'. Hence the lyric, "When I find myself in times of trouble, mother mary comes to me". Not the Virgin Mary, as originally thought. He wrote this to comfort his father, for him to "Let it Be".
Submitted by: anonymous I'm sorry to disagree, but in an interview, Paul says where the song came from. When the band was in hard times during the Get Back sessions, Paul had a dream in which his deceased mother came to him and told him that everything would be okay. "In the dream she said, 'It'll be alright.' I'm not sure if she used the words 'Let it be' but that was the gist of her advice, it was 'Don't worry too much, it will turn out okay."
Submitted by: F.T.R. Even if that is true, how is that disagreeing with what I stated? Both of those events could have happened.

Submitted by: danyelltay25 I see there's a whole dead mom theme going on here. Could be right, but I'm writing a report on The Beatles and I just read in a book called The Sixties, and it said that it was another anti-war/peace song; it was meant to be an alternative to the Rolling Stones "Let it Bleed".... eh?...eh?
Submitted by: EmosSuck777 Guys... Just because he had a mother named Mary and had a dream like that doesn't mean that the song isn't ALSO about the Virgin Mother. He was obviously comparing his own mother to the Madonna through the use of his odd word choice. (Who would call their own mother "Mother Mary"?)

Submitted by: anonymous 1--The dream scenario is right
Submitted by: anonymous Originally when they were filimng 'Let it be " movie, when they were at Twickenham studios, there was a rat infestation (evidently Ringo had gotten into the habit of leaving fish n' chip wrappers around). Well they could not get rid of it, so they devised a plan. Yoko Ono had immensley stinky feet, so they tried to convince he to walk around barefoot to get rid of the rat (it was rumored her feet smelled so bad it would melt chocolate). well Yoko being the stubborn one that she was refused to do it. This rat was the main reason the recording sessions were so troublesom e to especially Paul and the rest of the Beatles and caused so much discontent. Yoko actaully wanted to eat the rat, not kill it. Anyway, Paul thought a way of coaxing Yoko to do it would be to sing her a song..so he wrote this song for her called "Stinky Feet".
Submitted by: anonymous Alright...you people have so many different reasons for this song. One thing is...only one person is right because there is only one meaning. Let It Be is one of my favorites because Paul wrote it and he was my favorite in the band. Mother Mary isn't the Virgin Mary, Mother Marry is Paul's mother. The dream I think is true. That person that said about his father for him to say "let it be" is right. (it's the dream) if you want to figure it out...ask Paul McCartney for himself lol...what more can I say...he wrote it.
Submitted by: anonymous Am I the only one who hears it or am I crazy on the white album on this song in beetween 1min an 6 secs and 1min and 7secs there's someone talking I think it might be saying stinky feet like that guy said before me please tell me if I'm crazy or not thanks
Submitted by: anonymous Hi guys :) ok well my dad's been a Beatles fan for all his life, he grew up with them, it was his generation. Paul McCartney didn't write the song - it was John Lennon, as most beatles fans should know, John wrote a lot of the songs, and Paul McCartney simply added lyrics. The song is about religion, believing or not believing, just "let it be"??? Btw, if anyone want's to disagree or get all arrogant in there comments back at me, then get a life. Laters.....
Submitted by: anonymous Listen to the song very carefully at 1:07 do you hear someone mumble something in the background?
Submitted by: anonymous No, nothing. By the way, all of these interpretation (right or wrong, or stupid) are why the Beatles are so great...It's all about ambiguity, because no matter what the actual song meant, it means different things to different people
Submitted by: anonymous If you listen to it with headphones on, at 1:07 I do hear a muffled sound from the right speaker, but I would hardly call it a voice, and about that whole "stinky feet" thing, was that guy attempting to make a joke? It wasn't very funny, and obviously not true.
Submitted by: anonymous Ok, I love this song, and I love it for the one reason that it DOESNT have any "hidden meaning" or "special reasons" its just an ambiguous song telling people to cheer up, get on with there lives, don't worry that... ya dogs died, or your girlfriend has left you, what ever, just LET IT BE! and things will be ok. I think trying to reed to far into this will spoil it and stop it from been a globaly "feel good" kinda thing. As for the "mother Mary" bit, I just interpret that as been a symbol of someone loving to look after you and cheer you up, a "mother" figure to tell you it will all be ok.
Submitted by: anonymous I think you are all crazy. They were a bunch of drug addicts. In my opinion, which is probably fact, Mother Mary is Mary Jane. Pot. They were a bunch of potheads.
Submitted by: anonymous I heard somewhere that Paul had a dream and in his dream his mother "mary" came to him and spoke words of wisdom. I'm not sure if its true but it does totally fit the lyrics.
