The Remembrance Ballad Lyrics

These days are closing in.
The end has become apparent.
We’re only here for so long.
Will anyone remember my name
When time has washed away
The dust…of my ashes?
When my head rests in a velvet lined casket?
What’s out there?
What is my...

The song's meaning to me is when you first turn into a vampire. Vampires are known for being soulless and dead. People who die most likely are forgotten and seeing you die when becoming a vampire you will be forgotten over time. The part he sings "Of my immortal soul of this eternal flame. Will you remember? Will your heart sing with pain?" He could be saying that he's giving his soul for his love and will she remember, and will she hurt from his choice. And the other part, "Does it all simply end in a blanket of darkness. And what of my soul, what of my soul?" is also questioning what would happen if I choose to become a vampire? Will I truly become dark? And will I really lose my soul? So the put it blunt for all of you that don't understand what I'm saying is, one meaning of this song is what would it be like to be a vampire? Disagree if you must but listen to the lyrics closely. Even the beginning sounds like he's singing about a love and the choice of becoming a vampire and leaving his love behind to die. That leads to another line, "Mortality fading, like the innocence of love. I'm scared to death of what's to become." is saying he's scared of becoming a vampire and immortal to watch those he loves die while he lives on. These points all add up that he is talking about becoming a vampire not about him dying. Also that line "When my eyes close for the last time." it's talking about closing his eyes for the last time as a mortal. Stop thinking like it's about death and know what a vampire truly is not what people think they are. Vampires are not sparkly they burn, the feed on blood because they are dead and their blood dries up. The song is not about death, so get that shit out of your head.

It's pretty much clear. I recently hit him that one day he's going to die, and starts to realize that this life is just a state. He wonders if when he dies, will he be in hell or in heaven. If he goes to hell, he wonders if people will still remember him. And he hopes it's not too late, so he can wash off his sins because he wants to be of God and serve God.In conclusion to all this; he's starting to realize how scared he is of death and what's to become of him, and that there might be a God.

Writing about something doesn't mean the song writer is actually thinking about it like when you write about love doesn't mean there is actually a certain person that you love or when you write about being buried alive you are obviously not being buried alive
writing is not about reality, especially lyrics -_-,,,,

    These days are closing in.
    The end has become apparent.
We’re only here for so long.
    Will anyone remember my name?
    When time has washed away
    The dust…of my ashes?
When my head rests in a velvet lined casket.
    What’s out there?
    What is my eternal fate?
It only just recently hit me,
That this life…is just a state.
    Mortality fading,
    Like the innocence of love,
    I’m scared to death,
    Of what’s to become.

(as in life is only so long what is beyond life)

    Of my immortal soul,
Of this eternal flame, will you remember?
Will your heart sing with pain?
Who calls out my name? (my name)
Who can tell me what happens,
When my eyes close for the last time?(my eyes close)
Does it all simply end, in a blanket of darkness? (does it all)
What of my soul, what of my soul?

(will you remember me what happens (who calls out my name)as in is there a god)

All those things you couldn’t say, you should have said.
All those “I love you”s lost,
Weigh more like lead on your chest.
All those things you couldn’t say, you should have said.
All those “I love you”s lost,
Weigh more like lead on your chest.

    (dont take anything frogranted)

    Of my immortal soul
Of this eternal flame, will you remember?
Will your heart sing with pain?
Who calls out my name? (my name)
Who can tell me what happens,
When my eyes close for the last time? (my eyes close)
Does it all simply end, (does it all)
    in a blanket of darkness?
What of my soul, what of my soul?

If I could take back all those misspent days,
    Every second of anger,
I would wash my sins away.

(if I could I would change how I lived my life I would try to be a better person)

Who calls out my name? (my name)
Who can tell me what happens,
When my eyes close for the last time? (my eyes close)
Does it all simply end, (does it end)
    in a blanket of darkness?
What of my soul, what of my soul?
Who calls out my name? (my name)
Who can tell me what happens,
When my eyes close for the last time? (my eyes close)
Does it all simply end, (does it all)
    in a blanket of darkness?
What of my soul, what of my soul?

(will you remember me what happens (who calls out my name)as in is there a god)

you are all kinda right and wrong. alex has already stated that the song was made shorty after their return home from touring with the SN&BK tour. his grand father had passed away an if you haven't know his grandfather was a big supporter of his music career. an a big role in his life. the song reflects loved ones after we have passed on. who will remember us, what will we be remembered by, is it just a blanket of darkness or something else we are unsure.

I think that he is beginning to see the futility of everything that we do in our lives. He is beginning to realize what is really important, what happens when we die. He is right when he believes that everything that he has done is worthless and that someday it is all going to be gone. What is going to happen to his soul? Are people even going to care that he is gone?

I think that the song is about death, about wanting to know what's to become of us when we die.

I believe this song is about him wondering if anyone will remember him after death hence "of my immortal soul of this eternal flame, will you remember?, will your heart sing with pain?" and also about his fate after death "does it all simply end in a blanket of darkness
    and what of my soul?".

I believe that this song is about dying without being remembered. "Who call out my name". When you die will anyone remember what you did or even what your name was?

The guy asks himself that when he dies, he wonders where he's going: heaven or hell. That's my opinion, but that's the meaning I get from it.

I rekon Alex or Brandon were thinking about death to come up with this song. It's about wondering what happens to us when we die, who will remember us?
hence the lyric: "of my immortal soul and this eternal flame will you remember? who calls out my name who tells me what happens, when my eyes close for the last time, does it all simply end in a blanket of darkness, and what of my soul, what of my soul".
