Bruce Springsteen: Backstreets Meaning

Backstreets Lyrics
One soft infested summer me and Terry became friends
Trying in vain to breathe the fire we was born in
Catching rides to the outskirts tying faith between our teeth
Sleeping in that old abandoned beach house getting wasted in the heat
And hiding...
Trying in vain to breathe the fire we was born in
Catching rides to the outskirts tying faith between our teeth
Sleeping in that old abandoned beach house getting wasted in the heat
And hiding...

been a fan of springsteen since mid 70's in highschool. I believe bruce might have been inspired by the song seasons in the sun. he became a friend to terry through the song wanting to build up faith in each other to overcome the struggles they were born in.
