I think the song is about people trying to be someone they are not and that they don't want to be themselves but what is wrong with being yourself. You shouldn't try and be someone you're not "why fit in when you were born to stand out".

New fav this week, #coolkids nice lyrics great perspective of school life in reality. I like the way it is themed in the living of a teenager. A song about the conflicts of real-life self and ideal self influenced by society, as well as the need of acceptance in teenage.
