It Gets Better Lyrics

What have we done?
Oh my God.
What have we done?
Oh my God.

This is really happenin'
You never looked so bored.
Can you feel my fingernails?
They've never been so short

It's hard to lay a golden egg with everyone around
It's hard to...

Th lead singer of fun., Nate Ruess, is not gay. He is dating Rachel Antonoff, the guitarist sister. None of the boys in fun. are gay. They just support gay rights and believe that all people she be treated equally and have the same rights. This song is absolutely not about someone losing their virginity. These guys would never write a song like that. They are way too talented and thoughtful.

Yes, this song is 100% about losing your virginity. e.g. summer sweat, what have we done? covers off, we'll lose our feathers, etc. Writing a song about sex doesn't make you a sell out. Losing your virginity is emotional and passionate and has a lot of conflicting feelings. Also none of them are gay.

As Nate said in a Rolling Stone interview, this is about losing your virginity. "What have we done? Oh my God// This is really happening// I know it hurts at first, but it gets better// Can we kick the covers off?// I can taste your summer sweat// It's hard to stay inside my head, when words keep pouring out…" Nate cannot believe what he's doing for the first time, ha ha, he is most likely regretting it, if you know what I'm talking about, then we all know what he means when he talks about covers and sweat. I think we ALL understand "I know it hurts at first, but it gets better". This means…well you know. I think he cares about who his first time was with, referring to, "It's hard to stay inside my head, when words keep pouring out…" meaning that Nate's trying to tell how he feels about the girl he's singing to. And no, Nate is not gay, he is dating Rachel Antonoff, Jack's sister. Jack is not gay and Andrew isn't gay either, he is married. They just support LGBT very strongly.

Ok, I found out the true meaning of this song in a Rolling Stone interview with Nate Ruess (frontman<3). Let's get this straight. He is not gay, he supports LGTBs like the rest of Fun. This song isn't about being gay, it is about losing your virginity. That's what Nate said in the interview. If you really think about the lyrics like:
What have we done? ~He can't believe that he just lost his virginity.
Yes, I know it hurts at first, but it gets better ~Uh, I think we all know what he means there…
So, now it makes sense. Nate said how old he was when this happened and he was only 15 so that's pretty young so no wonder he's thing oh my God. Well now you know.

First of all, Nate is not gay. Second of all, they didnt sell out at all with this song. Third of all, this song is about losing your virginity. Nate has said it a few times now. If you honestly think it isn't, then you've obviously been really sheltered your entire life. look at the lyrics. Its obvious. That is all.

it is about how life grows from the young state of love. the relationship he has with the girl shows that he is a true master at putt putt

To the guy who says fun. sold out on this song. How the hell would they sell out if it isn't even a single! If they wanted to sell out with this song it would be the song on the radio instead of "we are young". The point of selling out on a song is to use it to get famous and the only people who will hear this song are people who actually care about the band.

The lead singer of Fun. is gay, so I believe this is his contribution to the LGBT project,"It gets better". In the chorus it says "Yes, I know it hurts at first, but it gets better" which I think means that the judgments people make about you won't as much later on in life.

I think it's about liking someone but not being able to tell anyone because you're closeted. The lines "it's hard to lay a golden egg when everyone's around," "it's hard to stay inside my head when everyone's around," and "it's hard to keep a straight face when I just want to smile, if you could see the look that's in your eyes" indicates that he/she is trying to hide his homosexuality, but he can't control it because he/she has feelings for someone else. Also, "It Gets Better" is the name of the project trying to stop LGBT bullying... no coincidence.

It is definitely about a young couple having sex. The whole CD seems to be about his relationship with this girl so it would make sense. It does not really fit the band though, even in the style. Fun. sold out on this one.
