It is by hank jr,not hank and it is an autobiographical song.He wrote the song when he was 30 and just after the mountain fall.

I think this song by Hank Williams was written to his second wife, Billie Jean. Because they married in 1952 and he died in 1953, at the age of 30. The lyrics, “Hey baby I love you, Hey baby I need you” refer to her.
