Metallica: Nothing Else Matters Meaning

Nothing Else Matters Lyrics

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words, I don't just say
And nothing else...

The song, if one listens to it and actually seperates the lyrics to a literal philosophical level, it may be about how someone becomes free from their own reprimed self. But the only way we can do it is opening ourselves to someone we love, we trust, we believe in. Love, yes. Romance? Maybe, but My own idea is that it mostly relates to Friendship. A friend or friends that one can trust, feel supported by, fight for, and die for. Friendship that shows that no matter who, what, or how it is it will never break. Nothing else matters, just us. Never opened like that to anybody else than to the person you most trust. It can be a family member, it can be your parent, your own bloodline, your friend, a random person you met, an employee, or even an enemy. It will all end into the most purest and truest friendship that can be fonded. And no matter what people say, believe, think or mock.Nothing else matter than the love you have for that person, and the love that person has for you.

    I dont know about James's GF and the fact he wrote the song for her. as someone who has listened to this song countless times i would interpret it this way;
so close no matter how far could'nt be much more from the heart in this world , all of us have our own aspirations and wishes which may sound interesting to others or not.to make them come true we may have to put ourseleves on a path towards which friens, parents and even the society as a whole might raise objection. however no matter how close their advice sound they aint closer to you than your heart so we need to put trust in who we are and make as much effort as needed to get who we are supposed to be regardless of how stupid it may look to others.
'never care for what they do .... should be explicite enough to persive. this is what i feel whn i listen to this song. it may not be what metallica had in their minds back then. even so i would still like to interpret it this way.

Two people hold a deep commitment for each other. They refuse to let others' opinions get in the way of their wedding day, just because others might think they could have made a mistake.

They take charge of their lives, stand on that bridge and exchange vows. Nothing else matters. It was our wedding song and we have been married almost 28 years.

We survived 6 months of separation and a near divorce in the last year. So close no matter how far.

He loves a girl. But he is also dealing with gaslighting from narcissistic parents. The narcissist doesn't want him to be with the girl so they create their own reality and paint the girl as bad.

It might sound weird but it's a real thing. You have to trust in your reality and block out the gaslighting from narcissists.

Many Metallica songs are about narcissistic parents.

Nothing Else Matters is a very serious and deep song.

Sorry to hear about your dad. Spend time with him and take care of him. Tell him how much you love him and how much you are grateful that he became your dad.

Right, can be applied in different situations.

Going through a tough time right now with my dad and his battle with cancer. He’s out of it and I don’t think has much time left with us. I have always been a huge Metallica fan and love this song but it has become something with so much more meaning to me now.

    Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words, I don't just say
    And nothing else matters

This part of the song especially, we’ve never been a familiar that’s super open with our emotions and now, just everything that I’ve let off my chest and told my dad as he lays here unresponsive, it just seems to make these lyrics have new meaning.

That’s the beauty of music like this though. It’s able to be applied to so many different situations.

It’s about a purity and depth of a feeling, communication felt through the heart.

    My interpretation:

It's about trusting and loving between two people or whatever the meaning means to the listener.

Sorry about your son. I agree it can be about friendships.
Sorry about your brother. I agree it can be about unconditional love.

Nothing Else Matters can be a Motto

Made me cry because I could see my brother playing acoustic guitar at the beginning of the song. He passed away less than a year ago three weeks into 2017. Makes me so sad but we had unconditional love for each other and nothing else matters.

My son was a huge Metallica fan. He died on 12/22/14. His brother put his funeral video together and, I don't remember who came up with the idea for using this song in the background but it was perfect.

This song could mean different things to different people but, to me, it's about friendship and my son, Chad was all about friendship. He had more friends than probably anyone I know and he made new friends wherever he was.

Thank you Metallica for putting out this beautiful, heartfelt song.

    and

command from somebody at sound like this... "i think this song is of philosophical meaning..we have to trust in ourself..that is the main point in this song.what we think is far reach from us can become so close if we trust in ourself.Life is hard and sometimes the path is so dark that it seems the road ends nearby...But if we change our view with an open mind, theres a lot more await for us.what the heart thinks sooo far can become so close if we dare..no matter what people knows,no matter what others do.nothing else matter...You can do anything".

perfect...good think.. sorry for my language, i'm apologize that.

    TERBAIKKKKKK....

I think the meaning of the song is that you always have your best guidence for yourself within you. Don't look for guidence outside of you even though those outside of you can be a reflection to open you up for more of yourself.
    Best song ever!

This song goes out to everyone around the world soliders who fight for our well beings, our freedom, our family, our safety. To people who just maybe are going or have been inrough times. To people who just need comfort when you don't want to talk they just wanna feel. This song doesn't have to be about his personal problems. It can be about life
Itself. The world in what he's seen or have been put in.

I wonder why he wrote this song it has so much feelings and
Heart and soul into this....it means something to me because of family and friends and my emotions. This song puts be in a place I don't want to be inside me ....it made me realize different things.
