My interpretation of the song is.. unconditional love..it actually was a rhetorical question...we as humans need clarity in relationships..Prince was asking questions that WOMEN usually ask men to a woman he loves..but he doesn't think she love him the way she loves him..

I literally have no idea if this was the intention of this song, but the way I interpret this song is, having the same type of pressure and expectation of just accepting a women aggressively coming onto you in the way that men typically do. Switching up the sides. I've heard a lot of other ways to interpret it, this is just how I do.
