in an interview colin meloy said that this song was written directly to his son who has autism and his wife. his son's name is henry. it's about the challenges they will face parenting and the challenges henry will face in his life. it's beautiful and his voice has so much emotion. this song always makes me cry. i saw it live and it was absolutely startling.
