The Strokes: Reptilia Meaning
Reptilia Lyrics
"Tell us a story
I know you're not boring"
I was afraid that you would not insist.
"You sound so sleepy
just take this, now leave me"
I said please don't slow me down
If I'm going too...

#1 top rated interpretation:I think this Song is about two people meeting eachother for the first time. Then he acts like he dont care( tell us a story, i know You're not boring) but inside he does cause he wanted her to insist. Wanting to look badass.
then begin the seduction game, telling her that he is going fast, and that she shouldnt stop him. But then he tell her that she can be an exception( You're in a strange part of our town) what means he dont fell often What she makes him feel.
Then he says that he dont obey himself so much and that things can change cause the night is just starting and that lives changes lines. But she makes him feel so diferent thing than What he is into.
Then the a man, comes in, ( now im taking over) maybe he talks bout a rapist and setting her on fire cuz at the end i dont feel shes happy. she all the time was seducting him and he didnt wanted tobgurt her but he does at the end because of her fault. Thats why in the end he say "i told you" -
the guy has moved on, but the ex is back. she ruined him and here she is again. she's not back cause she wants him back, she's moved on to her next prey, so she's just here to pull him back down. its cold blooded.

I think this song is all about him wrestling with someone wrestling with self doubt while trying to talk be with someone you're interested in. The person who's talking is his insecurity. 'He seemed impressed by the way you came in..." meaning he felt confident and didn't feel any negativity from hisself when he approaches a woman. "I was afraid that you would not insist..." meaning that the self doubt also gives him cues on what to do next. Tell a story, make a move, do this do that...etc. More self doubt creeps in "You sound so sleep just take this now leave me..." so apparently he takes something..an upper presumably. The rest of the song is to me a constant argument between him and his own mind. The self doubt mixed with reassurance "ya the nights not over, you're not trying hard enough..." the rest of the song is like that. Presumably his instincts take over and he's sort of riding shotgun to his impulses instead of slowing down and trying to make sense of it. The last major clue I think is when it says "You're no longer laughing, I'm not drowning fast enough.." to me that means his nervousness and awkward laughing has disappeared by his inhibition hasn't been dulled enough with alcohol. That's my guess.

Reptilia by The Strokes.
The "Reptilia" is a scientific term meaning the part of the brain we share with reptiles. It relates to higher-level base instincts and emotions. The title is not in the lyrics, implying that the singer is thinking with this part of his brain and acting on emotion rather than reason. -
I'm trying to look at both perspectives "he seemed impressed by the way you came in" as if it were the girls friend who told her that , and they go ahead and ask him "tell us a story I know you're not boring " and he though that girl of his dreams wouldn't even dare to ask him . And after him talking for a while they figure he's way to boring and just sounds like he's sleepy , and he's trying to get at the chick he was impressed with way to fast , he(Julian) gets rejected... he feels bad and pathetic that's when he looks himself in the mirror and tells himself "I told you this world is not for you" he can't talk to a girl and that the whole point of life . Then he goes on to start stalking the girl while she's fixing her hair , she's sees him stalking him and she gets angry and annoyed , but he did have a lot of feelings for this girl but he struggles for her to get to know him and he wants her to get to know him so badly . maybe the part were he says this "I thought I told you this world is not for you" is where he got the title of a repitilian humanoid. But yeah this lyrics is very complex and that's just a perspective that can be right or wrong only Julian knows what the lyrics means even if the song had a logical meaning it probably has much more complexity to it then what it just says ... I don't always see the song as what a wrote on this post but on the mood I feel I interpret it . It's hard to know who's the persons perspective in the song if whether the whole song is from a girls perspective or a mans or even a combination of 2 or more . So yeah the logical meaning is kinda there but maybe not the real meaning to the song.

I think it's about struggling to pull women in a nightclub
-
It's about using speed or coke and what it turns people into. Please don't slow me down if I'm going too fast...
-
The song is about revenge, not enacting it but watching it as fate helps it along. Its all about being the bad guy and then all the sudden your good but you cant stand it....
