   Because he says things like “somewhere in this darkness there’s a light that I can’t find” or “part of me is fighting this but part of me is gone”, and other quotes from the song I can only believe that he is talking about inner struggles, inner wounds that he has to deal with and is sometimes not fully “present”.

   My former husband called me one night out of the blue. I didn't pick up the phone but he did leave me a voice message. I didn't hear his voice, only the sound of this song playing in the background. It confused me because I didn't fully understood the song. But i knew it had a meaning behind it.
   Our relationship has always been rocky from the start. I've always question his intentions. He is bipolar. He self medicates by drowning himself in alcohol and weed. His actions are often questionable. I did not trust him. However, after listening and replaying this song several times, I came to a realization he was asking for help. I am honored that he considers me an important part of his life. Eventually I came to his aid not promising anything in return. I could not turn him away. We only spoke on the phone and not in person for over a year. We argued at times and we conforted each other too. He eventually figured out on his own he needed to change. I guess years of self destruction he got tired of feeling hopeless. He made the necessary steps to sobriety and addiction.
   I also went into a deep depression and loneliness. He came to my aid with no strings attached. Eventually I felt alive again. I felt enormously happy. Long story short, we are together again. Unconditional love, that is what this song is all about.
